What inspired you to run for City Commission and why do you feel you are the best qualified candidate?
I've always felt impelled to participate in the civic arena in one way or another, and have been active in many civically minded organizations in the community for a number of years. I truly want to do what I am able to, to make Ward 1, and the City of Battle Creek, better for all residents. I believe that there is so much opportunity here that just isn't being taken advantage of. I think one part of my campaign that sticks out to most is that I am personally going door to door, as opposed to sending canvassers. This was an essential aspect of my campaign. Being a Commissioner means working for the residents. I know what my issues are, but I wanted to know what YOUR issues are, so I may represent everyone that calls Battle Creek home.
What are the top three priorities in the commissioner district for which you are running and how would you address them?
Strengthening the ecomony, while keeping the city fiscally responsible, is a top priority. It all starts with encouraging new business growth/maintaining the businesses that already call Battle Creek home. Potential businesses need to be identified and targeted based on community needs, resources available, and job growth. Using various incentives at our disposal to encourage new business growth, particularly in sectors like technology, agricultural enginerring, healthcare, renewable energy and generative AI will be proven beneficial.
Safety is another key issue. We need to be holding those accountable for the crimes they commit.
