My background as a single mother of a daughter at UC Davis, city council member, former mayor, attorney, policymaker, AI/Robotics enthusiast and environmental advocate equips me with a unique blend of skills that aligns with running for District 4 of the City of Belmont. I have been working on building a city of the future, where I am action driven, pragmatic, strategic and collaborative. I am running for District 4 because since starting on the city council in 2015 I have gained the experience, integrity, vision and strong regional and state relationships to deal proactively with District 4's challenges and opportunities for a strong, vibrant, inclusive community for many years to come. I have been a planning commissioner and currently sit as a commissioner for Silicon Valley Clean Water. I have sat on the recycling and waste board for 5 + years helping them to build their zero emission programs, and the largest contract since their inception. I chair the Bay Area Air District for clean air and I am a trusted Governor Newsom appointee/Senate confirmed California Air Resources Board Member for the climate and clean transportation. In the county, I am immediate past Chair of the Cities County Association of Government, where I spearheaded our equity and strategic plan for the county. I don't just talk about what I will do, but I act for great change- listening and learning. Additionally, I sit on three non-profit boards the Government Ethics board at Santa Clara University Markkula Center, Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County, and the Advisory Council (past president of the board) of Samaritan House. My advocacy is about rebuilding and re-igniting the American Dream for all. We must return deep investment into people and place. I have the relationships, vision, integrity and experience to go back to work for Belmont on Day 1. I have endorsements from people with deep connections in the City of Belmont, the County, and the State of California, such as Congressman Kevin Mullin, Congresswoman Anna Eshoo, Former Congresswoman Jackie Speier, Senator Josh Becker, Senator Scott Weiner, Mayor Mates and Belmont Councilmembers, Supervisors Slocum, Pine, Canepa and Corzo, and Alan Server to name just a few. There is a famous singer who asks, "what have you done for me lately?" My record of achievements for the City of Belmont speaks volumes and could fill a playlist. I am committed to continuing this progress for District 4 and the City of Belmont.

If elected, what are your top 3 priorities?

1. Streets and traffic. This is the most frequent concern I hear from Belmont residents. We have made excellent progress improving streets in the last 4 years using Measure I money, but we still need to do a lot of catching up on many years of deferred maintenance. Traffic can be improved by better coordination of traffic signals where streets cannot be widened. 2. Balance between environmental protection and recreational use in our public open spaces. This is not "either/or." Our open public spaces are such that we can do both. 3. Affordable housing. There has been a major housing shortage in the Bay Area for many decades. We have sites available in Belmont that are close to CalTrain that can be redeveloped as excellent housing sites without impairing traditional neighborhoods. I was on the Belmont Planning Commission when we revised the general plan and zoning ordinance to encourage these new housing projects.

Belmont city experience: - Five years experience on the Belmont city council. - Four years experience on the Belmont planning commission. - Three years experience on the Belmont finance commission. Other government experience: - Five years experience as a federal government procurement official. Education: - MBA Vanderbilt University - B Architecture, University of Kansas - BS Engineering, University of Kansas Professional licenses: - Licensed architect: California, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Kansas, and Missouri

We need pragmatic, common sense city government that gets the job done without a lot of drama and strife. That’s what I stand for. I believe in creating much-needed affordable housing while preserving existing neighborhoods and public open spaces. I believe in fixing our deteriorating infrastructure and I believe in affording all citizens the same liberties, protections, and respect regardless of who they are or what they believe. I know from my experience as an architect and planner that Belmont has a natural layout that makes it possible to create much-needed housing without harming existing neighborhoods or open spaces. The “interstitial zones” between our commercial areas and residential neighborhoods are prime locations to develop new affordable housing without adversely impacting Belmont’s character, natural beauty, or environmental quality. In fact, new housing in those interstitial zones can form a good buffer between existing neighborhoods and commercial areas while also beautifying regions affected by blight, vacancy, and disrepair. Belmont’s streets and infrastructure were allowed to deteriorate for several decades as prior administrations neglected basic maintenance. We now have funding in place that is helping “play catchup” on that deferred maintenance. Over time, we will fix every street in Belmont. I’ll continue to ensure that we repair streets and infrastructure while maintaining parks, open spaces, and environmental quality. It’s the job of a city to make sure that all citizens receive the same treatment. I’ve always made it a priority to promote a culture of respect and collaboration, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or beliefs. I’ll continue to use my position as a councilmember to ensure those standards are upheld wherever the City of Belmont is involved.
