Qualifications: Why are you running for County Council and what professional background and experiences prepare you to serve in this role?

I’m running for County Council to strengthen our community through smart growth, strong schools, and support for local families and first responders. As a small business owner, and manager. I’ve managed budgets, led teams, and solved real problems. My work with civic, environmental, arts, and education groups gives me the experience to deliver practical, community-driven solutions.

Governance: How will you balance the good of the County with the interests of specific constituencies within your district?

I’ll strive to balance district priorities with the County’s long-term good by listening to residents, small businesses, first responders, organizations, and unions, grounding decisions in data, transparency, and equity. I will advocate for my district while supporting solutions that strengthen the whole County—ensuring fairness, fiscal responsibility, and that no community is left behind.

Land Use: What criteria will you use to evaluate new land use legislation? Will you seek input from district residents and, if so, how?

I plan to evaluate land use based on smart growth, environmental protection, infrastructure capacity, housing affordability, and community impact. I will actively offer district input through town halls, surveys, and meetings with residents, civic groups, small businesses, and first responders to ensure decisions reflect local needs and County-wide priorities.

Economy: What measures will you support to increase employment opportunities and improve the standard of living of County residents?

I will advocate for good-paying jobs by supporting small business growth, workforce training programs, and partnerships with local industries, schools, and unions. I will also back investments in infrastructure, affordable housing, and childcare to reduce barriers to work. By strengthening our local economy and ensuring residents have the tools and resources they need, we can raise wages and improve quality of life across the County.

Housing: What types of initiatives will you advance to address the County's housing shortage?

I would like to advance smart growth policies to expand affordable and workforce housing, including mixed-use development, and incentives for redevelopment. I’ll work with residents and stakeholders to ensure policies are effective and equitable, while supporting efficient permitting, infrastructure investment, and environmental protection.

Challenges: What do you consider the greatest challenge facing Anne Arundel County and what steps will you take to address it?

I believe Anne Arundel County’s greatest challenge is balancing growth with quality of life—traffic, housing affordability, and environmental sustainability all intersect. I will prioritize smart land use policies, invest in transportation infrastructure, support diverse housing options, and work with community stakeholders to ensure development strengthens our neighborhoods.

Qualifications: Why are you running for County Council and what professional background and experiences prepare you to serve in this role?

I am running for County Council because I love the district that has always been my home. I know the next four years are going to require strong leadership, communication and the ability to listen to concerns and take actions to serve the needs of District 5. There are new housing policies on the horizon and an uncertain fiscal future for our state. For the past eight years I have crossed the aisle in the interest of residents and families. Voters can expect my tireless efforts to continue.

Governance: How will you balance the good of the County with the interests of specific constituencies within your district?

Listening to the needs of my district and then working collaboratively with my colleagues on the council to find common ground is how I have balanced the needs of my district with the good of county for eight years. With the support of my colleagues I successfully retained the commercial area in the center of Severna Park and required thorough and public analysis before major development could be proposed. And I work to control government spending so residents can afford to stay here.

Land Use: What criteria will you use to evaluate new land use legislation? Will you seek input from district residents and, if so, how?

I always seek the input from district residents regarding land use legislation. The feedback that has been provided to me is a big part of my voting decisions. I committed to information sessions and transparency during re-zoning. I held tutorials on line, and presented the process in public meetings. When a high density development was proposed at a local Golf Center, I attended the community meeting, spoke to residents and worked on their behalf to try to mitigate the potential impacts.

Economy: What measures will you support to increase employment opportunities and improve the standard of living of County residents?

Increased employment opportunities require a business friendly environment for growth. I have passed numerous pieces of legislation that remove burdensome red tape that restricts business making it more costly to operate. These efforts have allowed industries to hire more young people, and increase staffing because they saved operating costs. I will continue to work on legislation that supports our local business who offer local jobs for residents and opportunities close to home.

Housing: What types of initiatives will you advance to address the County's housing shortage?

Dist. 5 is unique. It's home to one of the most challenging infrastructure strains in the state - the Bay Bridge. Lack of capacity has impacts from Broadneck to Severna Park. That is why I support housing in areas that can absorb additional residential growth like Transit Oriented Development, or the addition of accessory dwelling units. I'll also work with the next administration to streamline the building process. Time is money and cost gets passed to homebuyers - a detail rarely discussed.

Challenges: What do you consider the greatest challenge facing Anne Arundel County and what steps will you take to address it?

Affordability. There's a lot of discussion about the purchase of a first home. Existing residents are already feeling the pressure of increased costs. Energy. Property taxes. Vehicle fees, etc. The state is facing a fiscal cliff. The council needs experienced leadership to get through this time. I believe government should make tough choices like families do. Focusing on essential government functions that should be provided, then make responsible decisions to limit the burden on families.
