What are the two most important challenges facing Florida and, if elected, what actions will you take to address them within your first six months in office? (700 characters)

Two of my major concerns are the environment & property insurance. I will work to control & manage growth which also impacts our environment. We must ensure quality of life for future generations & enshrine the right to clean water in the Florida constitution. Developers and all polluters must be accountable for their messes. As climate change increases severe weather, our counties will incur more damage. Due to this, Insurance companies are leaving the market, allowing the few remaining to take advantage of us, unchecked by our elected state legislators and officials. In addition, we need to control the lawsuits that only drive up insurance cost & fill the pockets of property insurance cos.

Insufficient affordable housing is hurting Florida families and limiting Florida’s economy. What state measures do you support to address the affordable housing crisis? (600 characters)

First, we need to look at subsidies that are given for affordable housing and find how much the developers are taking for themselves. There needs to be oversight on how and where the money is being used. In addition, vouchers and public-private partnerships can assist renters and first-home buyers.

What legislative actions are necessary to improve voter access to the ballot and promote voter participation in elections? (600 characters)

Voting needs to be made easier for every citizen. Extended early voting times and places should be in place along with a guaranteed and continuing vote-by-mail ballot to all that request it. Notification of voter removal from rolls should be made quickly and allow time for the voter to rectify or agree with the notice. Ballot boxes should be increased for VBM drop off and polling places be available and open. Election day should be a holiday to allow everyone to vote. High School juniors should automatically be signed up so they are ready to vote at 18 years old.

What legislative action would you propose to protect Florida’s environment and natural resources? (600 characters)

The state, developers, businesses, and individuals need to be accountable for damages to Florida's environment natural resources. Permitting must be obeyed and the government must oversee and step in when damaging steps are taken. Smart growth and buffers must be in place to ensure our resources are not spoiled. Constitutional amendments for the right to clean water should be enacted and smart legislation for wildlife control be exercised (wildlife needs protection as well as our lands and waterways).

What is your stance on access to abortion? (600 characters)

Abortion is a healthcare right and should be left up to the person and their doctor. The state has no place in the exam room and should not prosecute doctors who perform this procedure. Women and men must have the right to control what can and cannot be done to their own bodies without an unqualified legislator enforcing their own belief system onto that decision.

What legislation would you support to better protect our youth and the public at large from gun violence? (600 characters)

Training and certification should be a continuing requirement for gun ownership. Weapons made specifically for war should not be allowed in the hands of citizens. Those who collect these types of weapons must be licensed and certified with regulated inventory of the gun(s). Bump stocks should be banned. We cannot control all weapons, but education and licensing should be a continuing program for all who own and use guns.

What is your plan to ensure that all Florida students have access to a high-quality education? (600 characters)

We need to allow teachers to teach. Professional educators, administrators, and guidance counselors should be making the curriculum decisions. Funding should be for public education NOT for vouchers to private or religious schools. Our students should not have to suffer from banning of books and textbooks that obscure and erase the true history of our state, country, and world. To compete in the future, our students must have all the tools available. This includes academics, sports, culture, and trades.
