1. I will be laser-focused on lowering the cost of living. That means building housing that is affordable and protecting renters. It means passing universal healthcare, so that everyone is covered. It means holding utility companies accountable. It means investing in public transit, so that families have options besides owning a car for every adult; and it means investing in universal childcare and fair living wages.

2. I will stand up for American values. That means defending our voting rights; standing against ICE; investing in public education; and protecting our bodily autonomy.

3. I will protect our air and water, and advance solutions that lower energy costs, create jobs, protect our communities from costly climate disasters and protect New Yorkers’ health. That means investing in water infrastructure and fighting against hyperscale AI Data Centers. And it means investing in clean, affordable energy like solar power and wind.

1) Rein in utility red-tape and streamline municipal permitting, to make solar power the easy, obvious, money-saving choice for every rooftop and (on solar canopies) parking lot. Right now, installing solar can take months of back-and-forth both with utilities and with municipal governments, multiple inspections and multiple truck rolls, and paper applications submitted and resubmitted in person. In countries like Australia, all of this is done with a single phone app in a single day – and as a result, installing solar costs only ¼ as much as it does in New York. This will green our grid and save utility customers money. 2) Invest to provide rebates and cheap financing for EVs and heat pumps to help people with the high upfront costs; invest in public transit. 3) Provide funding to municipalities to protect the water supply from the Hudson’s advancing salt-line, and to build climate resilience into every infrastructure decision.

An important first step is to identify and address the areas where inequities rooted in systemic racism continue to create opportunity gaps. Among them: Housing: Provide strong tenant protections, expand housing voucher programs, and enforce against discriminatory lending and source-of-income discrimination. Health: Black maternal mortality in New York is markedly higher than for white mothers. I will work to pass the New York Health Act to establish a single-payer, universal healthcare system. Environmental justice: Communities of color and other marginalized communities bear disproportionate environmental and health burdens from climate change. Because these neighborhoods sit nearest polluting facilities and diesel-truck routes, we should electrify trucking and industry there first, and prioritize insulation, heat pumps, and rooftop solar in these homes. Criminal justice: Invest in alternatives to incarceration, expand mental-health resources, and strengthen re-entry programs.

1) To ensure that voting rights are protected in New York even as federal protections fall away, New York must continue vigorously to enforce the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act of New York. 2) To counterbalance the unfair gerrymandering (and specifically racial gerrymandering) of Republican-led states, Democrats in New York must more aggressively redistrict. This is unfortunate, but necessary. Democrats cannot disarm unilaterally. We must, however, ensure that New York’s redistricting does not dilute the representation of communities of color. 3) In tandem with (2), leaders in New York must advocate for a federal law that would end gerrymandering, including in New York. A best case scenario is one in which no state gerrymanders. New York must work to make that happen – while doing its best in the meantime to preserve the federal balance of power in the face of gerrymandering in Republican-led states.
