If elected, what will your top three priorities be and why? (750 characters)
As a caregiver and provider, I have navigated complex health and human service systems. These experiences inform my advocacy for quality, accessible, affordable, and culturally responsive services. My mission is building community capacity to meet the needs of its members while building member capacity to meet the community's needs. I call this the Big Work. Together, we can create communities where everyone can contribute and thrive by improving health and human services for youth, families, and elders; building safe, livable communities with affordable housing, accessible transit, a thriving economy, and well-maintained amenities while exercising responsible stewardship of the county’s financial, infrastructure, and natural resources.
How would you ensure election laws do not create barriers to Minnesotans’ freedom to vote while also ensuring safe and secure elections? (500 characters)
I support legislation that promotes broad election participation and reduces barriers to voter participation. Counties are important in implementing laws that ensure our elections are free, fair, accurate, and secure. This includes preparing clear and easy-to-read ballots; purchasing, maintaining and testing accessible voting equipment; and recruiting and training poll workers. As a past election judge, I encourage everyone to take a turn performing this essential civic duty.
What do you see as the biggest challenges to mental health and social services in your county, and how would you address them? (500 characters)
Our communities lack a full spectrum of health and wellness services for families, elders, and people living with disabilities or mental illness. Ramsey County could have more timely, efficient, responsive, and compassionate services through meaningful stakeholder engagement, organizational realignment of service areas, closer coordination with DHS and other partners, modernization of IT, and workforce development of the care economy - including better resourcing and support of county workers.
