EDUCATION: How do you evaluate Michigan’s current education system in terms of quality, funding, the teacher workforce and standardized testing? What changes, if any, would you propose or support?

Michigan’s education system has dedicated teachers and staff, but too many schools are struggling with staffing shortages, growing demands on educators and uneven outcomes for students. I support attracting and retaining quality teachers through competitive pay, classroom support and reduced burdens. Standardized testing should be one measure of progress, not the primary driver of instruction. I also support giving local districts more flexibility because communities have different needs and backgrounds. Finally, I would support creating teacher advisory panels made up of active classroom educators to help drive legislative decisions.

ECONOMY: What policy initiatives do you support for residents to earn a living wage and address the overall question of affordability across Michigan?

Michigan families are being squeezed by rising costs from housing, insurance, utilities, childcare and everyday necessities. Addressing affordability requires more than focusing on wages alone. I support workforce training, good-paying jobs and greater accountability for costs that impact working families. I also support exploring property tax relief and student loan assistance for teachers, nurses, first responders and other community service professionals. People who dedicate their careers to serving our communities should be able to afford to live in them.

ENVIRONMENT/ENERGY: How would you approach ensuring energy reliability, consumer affordability, and environmental protection in Michigan?

Michigan needs an energy strategy that balances reliability, affordability, and environmental responsibility. As utility rates continue to rise, consumers should see measurable improvements in reliability, infrastructure, and environmental performance. Rate increases should be tied to demonstrated results, not promises alone. Utilities should provide transparent customer feedback data and show how concerns are being addressed. I also support expanding access to clear, understandable renewable energy options, including solar programs, so residents can make informed decisions about their energy future.

IMMIGRATION: What is your position on due process, First Amendment, and Fourth Amendment rights for all Michigan residents, including noncitizens, and what changes, if any, would you support?

I believe constitutional rights and due process are fundamental principles of our system of government. We can support secure borders, public safety, and lawful immigration while also ensuring that government actions remain consistent with constitutional protections and human dignity. America has long been viewed as a place of opportunity and hope, and our immigration system should reflect both the rule of law and our values. I support clear, legal pathways to citizenship and policies that are fair, practical, and respectful of individual rights.
