EDUCATION: How do you evaluate Michigan’s current education system in terms of quality, funding, the teacher workforce and standardized testing? What changes, if any, would you propose or support?

Our education is not equitable across Michigan. Unfortunately, in more affluent neighborhoods, the educational outcomes are higher. When our students are worried about having the basic necessities, it's harder for them to focus on their education. We need to provide more to those in more challenging socioeconomic situations and uplift them. We must also prioritize specialized learning, such as having high schools dedicated to skilled trades for those interested in that very crucial path. Tuition-free public colleges should also be available so we may continue our education and stay competitive.

ECONOMY: What policy initiatives do you support for residents to earn a living wage and address the overall question of affordability across Michigan?

I support raising the minimum wage. I fully support, and am an advocate for, the MiCare legislation to give everyone in Michigan healthcare. This is my top priority. This not only helps lower everyone's healthcare burden, but it takes that expense off the plate of small and local businesses which in turn helps our communities. I support rent freezes. As an example, my community had its rent raised 3 times in the past 2 years. This is unacceptable. I make a poverty wage, so my experience with this is as someone at the bottom of the socioeconomic ladder. We need to offer more not-for-profit options for basic needs such as food and clothing.

ENVIRONMENT/ENERGY: How would you approach ensuring energy reliability, consumer affordability, and environmental protection in Michigan?

No data centers! No exceptions. I oppose their very existence. We must move toward clean and renewable energy as quickly as possible. Combining solar, hydro, and wind for our energy needs will offset much of the energy costs and environmental damage sustained thus far. We must do more to clean our lakes and water sources. This will involve hiring teams to do just that. We must update our pipes and clean water infrastructure. Corporations must be held accountable for the depletion of our resources. DTE must be reigned in. They are profiting at our expense. This has to stop.

IMMIGRATION: What is your position on due process, First Amendment, and Fourth Amendment rights for all Michigan residents, including noncitizens, and what changes, if any, would you support?

Due process is for everyone in our country. If you are here, you have the right to due process. I support First Amendment and Fourth Amendment rights for all Michigan residents. I'd support changes which protect releasing personal information on immigrants without a judicial warrant. I support transparency and clear identification of police and other law enforcement officials. This means law enforcement must not hide their identities. Even federal agents acting within Michigan's borders must adhere to this.
