EDUCATION: How do you evaluate Michigan’s current education system in terms of quality, funding, the teacher workforce and standardized testing? What changes, if any, would you propose or support?
Michigan has many dedicated educators and strong schools but the system is not consistently delivering equitable outcomes across the state. Teacher shortages, aging school infrastructure, and lack of funding continue to affect student achievement. I support increasing teacher pay and healthcare coverage, incentives to recruit and retain, and improving working conditions through smaller class sizes and better support staff. Standardized testing assessments can provide useful information, but they should not be the sole measure of student success.
ECONOMY: What policy initiatives do you support for residents to earn a living wage and address the overall question of affordability across Michigan?
I’m proud to have introduced legislation to lower the cost of childcare and help working parents enter and remain in the workforce. Childcare affordability is one of the biggest barriers facing both workers and employers. I also support increasing the minimum wage, protecting earned paid sick time, and strengthening workers’ rights to organize and collectively bargain. When workers have a voice on the job, fair wages, and affordable childcare, families are more financially secure and Michigan’s economy is stronger for everyone.
ENVIRONMENT/ENERGY: How would you approach ensuring energy reliability, consumer affordability, and environmental protection in Michigan?
Michigan families deserve energy that is reliable, affordable, and clean. I support Michigan's Clean Energy Future laws, which sets a goal of 100% clean electricity by 2040 while expanding renewable energy, energy storage, and grid modernization. We must continue investing in our electric grid and water infrastructure to improve reliability, lower long-term costs, and create good-paying jobs. I also support investments in flood mitigation, green stormwater infrastructure, and sewer system upgrades to address record rainfall, reduce sewer overflows, and protect our Great Lakes and local communities.
IMMIGRATION: What is your position on due process, First Amendment, and Fourth Amendment rights for all Michigan residents, including noncitizens, and what changes, if any, would you support?
I do not support changes that weaken the constitutional rights guaranteed to individuals in the United States. The rights to due process, free speech, and protection from unreasonable searches and seizures are fundamental principles of our democracy and must be upheld. Every person, regardless of nationality or immigration status, is entitled to due process under the law. I believe these constitutional protections safeguard individual liberty, ensure fairness in our legal system, and should be consistently applied and protected.
