What do you think would be the most beneficial policies to address climate change and the damage caused by climate change in NYS?
I would center New York's climate approach on affordability, reliability, and an "all-of-the-above" energy mix — supporting nuclear and hydro, keeping natural gas available, and rolling back or pausing the CLCPA's mandates and carbon-pricing plans. It would likely yield some emissions reductions via clean baseload and reliability work, but it is not designed to meet — and would in practice undercut — the state's 85% by 2050 target.
What policies will you pursue to promote social and racial justice in our state?
Social and racial justice in New York begins with opportunity — and opportunity begins with affordability. The families who have been left behind in our state haven't been failed by a lack of slogans. They've been failed by a lack of access: to a good school, to a first home, to capital for a small business, to a safe neighborhood, and to an energy bill they can actually afford.
That is where I would focus. I would pursue down-payment assistance and fair lending so families can build wealth in the neighborhoods they grew up in. I would expand career and technical education and apprenticeships so young people in Albany, Schenectady, and Troy have a real path to a good-paying trade. I would back our small businesses — especially minority- and women-owned businesses — with real access to capital, not just paperwork. I would fund public safety the way that actually works: violence interruption and mental-health co-response.
What actions, if any, would you propose New York State take after the recent Supreme Court decision in Louisiana v. Callais?
Our maps should not be drawn by the parties that stand to win or lose from them. That is the heart of the problem, and it is why so many New Yorkers have stopped trusting the process.
I believe maps should be drawn by an independent process — one that answers to the public, not to party leadership. It should run on written rules, not on the judgement of whoever happens to hold power. And those rules must include a clear, enforceable prohibition on drawing districts to favor one party over another.
