Qualifications in Brief Lou is retired following a 45-year career with the Spartanburg Herald-Journal, where he was city editor, an investigative reporter and a daily columnist.

What qualifies you for this office?

As a lifelong resident of Spartanburg County, I know the history of our community, and I know its needs. I was a public figure throughout my 45-year newspaper career, and that position brought me close to the concerns of people.

If elected, what are your top three priorities?

Concerns about data centers, public safety and transparency.

What changes, if any, do you feel would improve the operation of this office and why?

We must have total transparency. Public business must always be discussed in public. Secrecy breeds a level of suspicion that creates an us vs. them mentality. This is the current climate with our County Council. Our council members must bridge divides and focus on shared purposes rather than differences.

Qualifications in Brief Financial planner, 9 years service on District 2 School board

What qualifies you for this office?

I’ve served on the School Board, managing multi-million dollar budgets and seeing firsthand how county-level decisions impact our kids. I know exactly where the disconnect is between new subdivisions and overcrowded classrooms because I’ve been on the receiving end of it. I’m not a career politician or a developer looking for a payout. I’m a resident of District

I sit in the same traffic you do. My kids go to the same schools. My qualification isn't just a title; it’s the fact that I have skin in the game. If the county fails, my family feels it just like yours.

What qualifies me most is what I don't have: I don't have a list of developers funding my campaign. I don't have 'friends' in high places who expect favors in exchange for permit

If elected, what are your top three priorities?

Priority 1: The "Infrastructure-First" Mandate For too long, Spartanburg County has allowed developers to dictate the pace of our growth. We’ve seen thousands of homes approved while our roads remain stuck in the 1990s. My first priority is a legislative mandate that infrastructure must be functionally in place before a new subdivision is approved. Priority 2: The "No Seat, No Permit" Policy As a member of the School Board, I have seen the "crisis of the portable classroom." We have a County Council that approves massive residential developments without ever checking to see if the local elementary school has a desk for the new students.

I would love an opportunity to expand my 3rd priority, but I’m limited to 750 words.

What changes, if any, do you feel would improve the operation of this office and why?

To improve the operation of the County Council office, we have to move away from "reactive" management and toward proactive accountability. Right now, the office operates like a rubber stamp for developers; it needs to operate like a shield for the taxpayers.

Qualifications in Brief I’m not a career politician, I’m someone who works, lives, and raises a family right here in this community. In my professional life, I’ve been responsible for managing operations, budgets, and long-term planning.

What qualifies you for this office?

I’m not a career politician; I’m a professional who manages large-scale operations and budgets. My qualifications come from real-world accountability. In my career, when something breaks, you don't pass the blame—you fix it. I’ll bring that same common-sense approach to our local government. I’ve spent years overseeing multi-million dollar assets and infrastructure, ensuring every dollar is used efficiently. Beyond my professional experience, I am a father raising my daughters on the same land my great-grandparents lived on. I have a personal stake in our future. I offer a steady hand and a transparent mindset to ensure our community is put ahead of politics every single time.

If elected, what are your top three priorities?

Infrastructure & Planning: I will focus on fixing our roads and improving traffic flow. Our planning must stay ahead of the growth we are seeing to protect our quality of life. Public Safety: Having served as a firefighter, understand the importance of reliable emergency services. I will work to ensure our first responders are properly equipped to protect our homes. Transparency & Accountability: I will treat your tax dollars with the same respect I use when managing multi-million dollar professional budgets. I believe in a government that is open, accessible, and answerable to the people it serves.

What changes, if any, do you feel would improve the operation of this office and why?

Efficiency improves when we stop reacting and start planning. My professional background is in long-term management; playing catch-up is a waste of resources. We need proactive planning to stay ahead of growth. Accountability is also vital. I believe all council meetings should be recorded and made easily accessible to the public. Decisions shouldn't happen behind closed doors. I support a clear "Yes" or "No" verbal voting process so every resident knows exactly where their representative stands on every issue. Trust is built through transparency and being visible in the community. I will bring a common-sense, results-oriented approach that puts the people first.
