Why are you running for state Treasurer?

To Move South Carolina Forward and restore accountability and transparency to the State Treasurer’s Office.

Given that technology changes so rapidly, how will you keep SC ahead of the curve in managing finances, investments, debts, and other treasury activities?

Over $850 Million unclaimed money sits in our state coffers. That money belongs to the citizens. When elected, I will modernize existing processes and controls to return that money to the rightful owners, to include using responsible banking practices that moves SC further in managing taxpayer money and treasury activities.

How will you address protecting citizens and businesses in SC from financial fraud?

As a former Bank Examiner, I have been trained to verify and sworn to protect. I will ensure that the treasury’s internal controls are responsive to the growing incidence of financial fraud leveled against vulnerable adults and businesses in SC. I will make sure that the State Treasurer’s Office is engaged with all communities and advocate a “trust but verify” approach to prevent financial fraud and increase accessibility to financial literacy and awareness training opportunities.
