As Secretary of State, what would be your top priority?

My top priority is to reinvigorate a neglected office and make it work for the people of South Carolina. I want it to be an engine that encourages and supports people to start new businesses and nonprofits to create stability and generational wealth. I want the office to be a one stop shop to set up businesses and also link people to funding and business support wherever they are located in the state.

What experiences qualify you to represent the citizens of South Carolina in this office?

I have extensive global experience in a business setting having worked in Uk, Europe, China, Japan,Taiwan, South Korea and the US. My background in the civil nuclear industry gives me a strong appreciation for accountability and the purpose of regulations and record keeping. I have also set up a small business and a faith based nonprofit in South Carolina so understand the challenges. On top of that I am a notary so have interacted with the Secretary of State office on many levels. I am deeply committed to the state as my home and want to work so that everyone has opportunities to create something for themselves and trust in our state government.

How would you protect our citizens against "scam" charities while encouraging them to support legitimate charitable organizations?

The Secretary of State office is perfectly positioned to help with this. I would set up a hotline for people to report scams and unethical practices by charities and non profits. I would also create an education program, particularly for seniors, to help prevent them from falling prey to scams in the first place. I would also urge the state to pass Beneficial Ownership legislation so that company owners cannot hide behind shell corporations.
