Horry County School Board District 2 Choose 1
The Horry County school district is governed by a 12-member Board of Education. Eleven members are elected from single-member districts for 4-year staggered terms. The Board, which has legal authority for the operation of all public schools in Horry County, acts to interpret the educational needs of the County and then meets those needs with policies and facilities that stimulate the student and the learning process. The Board hires the Superintendent who is a professional educator employed to advise the Board on all matters concerning management of the schools and to administer laws.

1. What issue(s) particularly motivate you to serve on the school board, and how will you address them?
Horry County Schools has given much attention to school safety as it relates to external threats. I believe increased attention must now be given to concerns for discipline and disruptive behaviors in the school buildings.
2. With all of the challenges that children and teachers face, what mental health resources should be available?
As a mental health clinician in Horry County Schools for the past six years, I am acutely aware of the needs of the students who experience mental health problems. The district is the only school district in South Carolina to provide the behavioral health resource for students in every school, but this program must be expanded, as well as behavioral interventionists need to be added on a full-time basis in every school.
