What do you consider the three most important challenges facing your municipality?

I believe the three most important challenges facing New Milford are affordability, overdevelopment, and flooding. Each one of these presents their own unique challenges to our community, but they are also closely connected and have a direct impact on taxes and the quality of life of our residents.

What personal and professional experiences have prepared you for addressing these challenges?

Personally - My family has deep roots in New Milford. My daughters are the fifth generation of my family to be born, raised and educated in New Milford Public Schools. Professionally - In addition to my 10+ years experience in retail and more than 25 years in marketing, I have served as a member of the Borough Council for 4-Terms and as Mayor for 2-Terms. I have a deep and unique understanding and perspective of how the borough operates and it's relationship with residents and business community.

A municipality has two budgets - the annual operating budget and a capital budget. What are your priorities for each of these budgets?

Operating Budget - To maintain high quality municipal services, strong public safety, and beautiful recreational facilities for our residents while maintaining fiscal discipline. Capital Budget - Infrastructure improvements such as paving streets, maintaining stormwater sewers as well as providing and updating equipment for our public safety departments and increasing pedestrian and vehicular traffic safety.

How do you plan to keep property taxes from rising while meeting the needs of citizens in your town?

I will continue pursuing county, state and federal grants, shared-services opportunities with surrounding municipalities, and our local school district, controlling spending, eliminating waste, protect the borough from litigation and identifying efficiencies wherever possible.

What actions, if any, would you support in your town to reduce the negative effects of climate change?

I support the actions I have been a part of making New Milford more resilient. This includes improving stormwater infrastructure and flood mitigation, preserving open space, expanding our tree canopy, improving energy efficiency in municipal buildings, adding electric vehicle charging stations, and pursuing state and federal grants for environmental projects.
