One of two legislative chambers in the federal government, the House has 435 members, proportionally representing the population of the 50 states, elected to 2-year terms in November of even-numbered years. Representatives must be at least 25 years old, U.S. citizens for at least 7 years, and inhabitants of the state they represent. SC’s 7 congressional districts are redrawn every 10 years by the state legislature. Representatives make federal laws, including taxation, and may declare war or investigate issues of national importance.
