1. What experiences qualify you to represent your constituents on County Council?

I served 12 years on the Greenville County School Board, and chairman of the Greenville County School Board. I served 24 years on County Council. I am a member of the Board of the Appalachian Council of Governments. Chairman of the RAC committee. I am a past president of the South Carolina Association of Counties.

2. What do you believe are the most important issues facing our county? How would you address them?

Growth- Bring back ordinances that worked in the past, but were removed by previous councils. Public Safety-Focus on all aspects of public safety not just law enforcement. Staff needs to be increased in all areas to sustain the amount of growth we have had. Salaries and benefits need to be increased all through the system. Infrastructure-by creating ordinances that require developers to fund their on infrastructure and upgrade existing roads and intersections as needed to accommodate the additional traffic created by their developments.

3. What steps should County Council take to address the availability of affordable and workforce housing?

Workforce housing and affordable housing has never been the key function of county government. Those issues should be handled by the public sector.

4. What will you advocate for in the county's transportation improvement plans?

I have previously and will continue to encourage the Management of the transportation of the City of Greenville to recreate their system in a way that it will be dependable and efficient for all citizens that need to ride public transportation. At the present time millions of dollars are being spent on a system that operates only for a small number of people. Because it is not dependable or available to all areas needed. The questions needs to be asked do you need big buses to carry 10 people or a more economical vehicle. Are they better ways to deliver the transportation services.

1. What experiences qualify you to represent your constituents on County Council?

I was born, raised, live and work in District 17, Northern Greenville County where everyone in a 10 mile radius is considered your next-door neighbor. As an electrician, I go into my neighbor's homes and talk to them, while fixing their electrical problems. Troubleshooting and problem-solving, giving you an honest I feel that I am well attuned to the needs and wishes of the residents of my district.

2. What do you believe are the most important issues facing our county? How would you address them?

Development. They talk about controlling growth but I don't see it happening. I am especially concerned with development moving North into District 17 and tarnishing our beautiful mountains. My intent is to proposed resolutions to protect rural land and stop development from taking over every inch of our county. Specifically, I am advocating for limiting DEVELOPERS (not private residents) to building 1 dwelling per 10 acres in RURAL, agricultural areas.

3. What steps should County Council take to address the availability of affordable and workforce housing?

Affordable housing is no longer affordable, since we started advertising Greenville all over the United States and thus contributing to the influx of population. It is not the role of the government to provide housing to anyone -- I believe the employers should be burdened with providing bonuses to their employees to cover rising living costs.

4. What will you advocate for in the county's transportation improvement plans?

This is a huge expense for the county that benefits a very small group of people. I would propose we privatize this sector. We can easily award contracts to small businesses to provide transport along the established routes. Not only would this be more cost efficient, but it will provide new business opportunities to local entrepreneurs.
