Farmers Branch City Council Dist 2 Choose 1

The City Council features a Mayor, elected at large, and 5 Councilmembers, elected from 5 single member districts. The Mayor and City Council have 3-year terms, staggered so that 2 positions are up for election each year. The Mayor and Councilmembers serve without pay. If no candidate receives at least 50% of the votes, there will be a runoff election. A special election will be held on November 5, 2024, to fill the unexpired term for Councilmember for District 2. The unexpired term for this position will be through May 2026.

WHY RUNNING: What qualifies you to be an effective City Council member?

I have direct experience with the City Council as recently as May of this year servicing as District 3 City Council Woman, prior to be redistricted out.

HOUSING: What would you do to increase safe, quality, affordable housing in your community?

Economic Development needs to aggressively pursue new/different developers that specialize in the missing middle for our community. We have apartments on either side of our city, which unfortunately in the current economy does not equate to affordable entry level but we do not have enough duplexes, cottage courts, fourplexes or homes under $350,000.

LICENSING AND PERMITTING PROCESS: Would you do anything to improve your city’s licensing and permitting process?

Updating antiquated municipal definitions would assist with the licensing and permitting process. The current definitions are used by many municipalities as a blanket statement but don't even point back to state things such as the TDLR occupational codes. I understand the need for safety measures but making it easier to do business will encourage new business growth.

PUBLIC SAFETY STAFFING: What changes would you support to attract and retain quality public safety personnel?

Our chief is amazing! Completing the remodel of the police station would boost morale, making them feel equally important to other departments.

CHALLENGE/OPPORTUNITY: What are the city’s greatest challenges and opportunities over the next several years?

Balancing the decreasing sales taxes, the state cap on property taxes concurrently with the increasing cost of doing business. Basically, less in, more out scenarios. The city must find other opportunities for revenue streams to compensate.
