Personal Biography
I grew up in Wisconsin but have lived off and on in Kansas since high school. I enjoy it here in Topeka and am proudly here by choice. After high school I served 5.5 years in the army, where I learned firsthand the evil and stupidity of war. I currently work in a car battery warehouse in Topeka, and my favorite part of the job is making deliveries all over this beautiful state and stopping at little lakes and parks for lunch. My dog Starfox is my loyal and faithful companion in my adventures.
Community/Public Service
I believe that the most important thing we can do for our communities and the world in general is to treat the people we interact with and meet in real life excellently. If one can't do that, no amount of charitable giving or volunteer work will make up for the fact that you're just not a good person. For example, if you're enjoying a walk in the park and see some litter, pick it up. Positive personal action on a daily basis is far more important than joining causes. My local political group, the Libertarians of Northeast Kansas, has adopted Betty Phillips Park in Topeka and faithfully keeps it free of trash.
Education
I was homeschooled for most of my childhood and will always be grateful that my parents made that choice. It taught me that I can teach myself and that there's nothing I can't learn if I put my mind to it. It trained me to seek out information , analyze it, and apply it on my own. When homeschooling me became too much for my parents to handle I briefly attended St Mary's Academy, a Catholic boarding school, which was my first introduction to Kansas. I didn't last long under their strict rules and ended up getting my GED. After the military, I used my GI Bill to get a degree in Elementary Education with a math focus from K State. I didn't teach for very long but continue to be a lifelong learner with a voracious appetite for books and knowledge.

The most important challenge facing our country is the size and scope of the federal government. It has become a vast bureaucratic machine that runs on the sweat and tears of the working class. Not only does it take a large portion of our incomes, it taxes our literal future through printing money and creating inflation. The hatred I have for this insidious process knows no bounds. I believe the solution is to reduce the federal government to a tiny handful of volunteers, actual civil servants who work for us rather than for enriching themselves and their friends. Delete most if not all federal agencies. End ALL the wars. Close all foreign bases. Stop sending our tax dollars overseas. Stop bailing out billionaire corporations. Just stop!
As with most areas of life, healthcare is made worse by the government, not better. Same with health insurance, it is destroying actual real health care. Because we've been going down this road for so long however, solutions will take a long time to implement. But long-term fixes that require some work and sacrifice always turn out better than short term, feel-good "solutions". I would love to see healthcare moving away from insurance, towards a cash-based system. I would love to see actual charity hospitals. The current system of insurance running everything and the government trying to fill in the gaps is not healthy or sustainable. And don't even get me started on the role pharmaceutical companies play in controlling current practice.
I think that past and current and future efforts to hunt down and deport immigrants are a huge waste of resources and a terrible way to treat other people. However, I understand on a personal level that too much imported labor drives down working class wages. The solution is a secure border. If that was the current situation, ICE could and should be abolished as there would be no need for it, the dubiousness of the present need for ICE notwithstanding. I believe that if the border was secure, all the cruel and inhuman "Band-Aid" government solutions would not be even considered as there wouldn't be an issue to begin with. Fix the problem at its source, rather than wasting taxpayer money and bringing unwanted force into our communities.
My economic priorities are inflation and regulation. These affect Kansans by causing price increases and creating barriers to entry. As regards regulation, what happens is that giant businesses create lobbies, donate funds, and get "safety and security" policies signed into law that benefit themselves. This creates almost insurmountable bureaucratic hurdles and costs for start-ups or entrepreneurs who could rise up to challenge them. And when they fail, the federal government just bails them out. The spending and inflation problem is very simple to solve. Just stop. The problem is that somebody benefits from every federal dollar spent, usually somebody well connected to the federal government. All new people in office is the only solution.
Not to be a fatalist, but I believe that voting just gives 'We the People" the illusion of choice. This country, although not an outright oligarchy, has over the years become controlled by those who have the money. As a third party candidate, I am painfully aware that ideas don't matter in politics, money and connections do. You're either born into power or buy your way into it, and anything else is just not an option. I can't say how or why our elections should be secured or voting rights handled because at the end of the day, we cast our votes for the names and parties that we're told to cast them for. Although outright election fraud would be a travesty, at the end of the day the result is the same. I'd love to be proved wrong on this!
Money and politics have gone hand in hand since civilization first developed. I understand the supreme court has ruled that corporations can function as individuals when it comes to campaign financing, but I believe this sets a regrettable precedence. I don't believe that capping personal donations does much to keep people from buying elections because there are so many ways to circumvent the system. Same with lobbies, both foreign and domestic. The fact that lobbyists and not our elected politicians write most of the bills they sign and we pay for is appalling. I believe that the only solution is to reduce the influence, size, and power of the federal government to the point where it isn't profitable to be involved with it anymore.
I think that gun violence, like other forms of violence and criminal anti-social behavior in general, is an economic problem at its core. When people are doing well, mental health improves. Productive and happy citizens don't kill each other. Angry and resentful citizens do, with or without guns. Material success isn't everything but it would help to relieve the desperation and apathy that many of us on the lower rungs of society are feeling. There will always be outliers and mentally unstable people, but in a healthy society the effects caused by such individuals are minimal. When simply surviving and having food and shelter is in question, desperate measures become the norm. Ending inflation by cutting spending is the long term solution.
