Personal Biography
Becca Burnfin is a mom, wife, educator, volunteer coach, and lifelong advocate for public education. With more than 20 years serving Southwest Kansas students and families, she is a doctoral student studying education policy and a passionate voice for stronger schools and communities.
Community/Public Service
Becca is a strong union leader representing Southwest Kansas educators and advocating for students, educators, and public schools. She is also a volunteer coach and founded the Youth in Governance program to encourage young people to engage in civic leadership. Through service and leadership, Becca works to ensure every generation has a voice in their community.
Education
Becca is a product of California public schools. She began her higher education journey at Chaffey Community College before transferring to California State University, San Bernardino, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies. She later earned her Master of Arts in Teaching from Liberty University and is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Oregon studying education policy.

What sets me apart is the combination of experience, service, and a deep commitment to my community. As a classroom educator with more than 20 years of experience, a doctoral candidate studying education policy, and an advocate for public schools, I understand the challenges facing students, families, and educators because I see them arise in the classroom first. I have served as a leader representing Southwest Kansas educators, developed grassroots leaders, and advocated for voices often left out of important conversations. As a mom, coach, and community volunteer, I know the importance of listening, building relationships, and bringing people together to solve problems. I will bring experience, integrity, and a commitment to service.
Public schools are the foundation of strong communities. As an educator, I know investing in students, educators, and school staff is investing in Kansas’ future. I will advocate for strong schools where every student has the opportunity to succeed.
Working Kansans deserve an economy where one 40-hour-a-week job is enough to support a family and afford the basics. I will support policies that value hard work and help families thrive.
Healthcare must be affordable and accessible. I will support efforts to lower prescription costs, expand access to care in rural communities, and ensure families can seek medical care without fear of financial hardship.
First and foremost, I will always listen to the constituents I represent and be accessible when they have questions, concerns, or ideas. Citizens deserve a government they can understand and participate in. I would work to improve transparency by making legislation easier to follow, with clearer bill summaries, accessible updates, and opportunities for public input.
The “Gut and Go” process can undermine trust when significant policy changes are added to bills without adequate time for review and discussion. While amendments are an important part of the legislative process, Kansans deserve transparency, meaningful debate, and the opportunity to understand how decisions are being made on their behalf.
I support changes to Kansas election laws and voting systems that make it easier for every eligible citizen to participate in our democracy while maintaining trust and security in our elections. Voting is a fundamental right, and every Kansan should have a fair opportunity to make their voice heard.
In communities like Garden City, barriers such as work schedules, transportation, voting locations, and the feeling that one vote does not matter can impact participation. I believe we should look for solutions that increase accessibility, encourage civic engagement, and ensure every eligible voter feels their voice has value in our representative government.
