2024 State House Thirteenth Middlesex District
The Massachusetts House of Representatives is comprised of 160 members, each representing a district of approximately 40,000 people and each elected for a two-year term. As required by the Massachusetts Constitution, the House meets year-round in either formal or informal sessions to consider legislation. The Massachusetts House is led by the Speaker of the House who is elected by the members of the body at the beginning of each two-year legislative session. Base salary for each representative is approximately $66,256.

As the primary House sponsor of this legislation (H686, An Act establishing same day registration of voters) I certainly support it. Experience with election day voter registration in other states has demonstrated that between 3 and 11% more voters are able to cast ballots. Until the legislature enacts this we will continue to disenfranchise 3 to 11% of our friends and neighbors who wish to vote.
We need to enable thermal transmission rather than gas to homes and businesses, create thousands more reliable charging stations for electric vehicles, develop necessary electrical substations to distribute increased wind, solar and other green electric power, further develop off-shore wind, and create micro grids.
Social housing is working in Atlanta, Georgia and Montgomery County, Maryland. Developers only obtain 70% of what they need with bank loans. A state social housing revolving fund accessed by local communities would supply the additional 30%. After construction, the developer receives its profit and the local housing trust rents most units at market rate, some affordable, and some low income. The 30% is paid back to the revolving fund in 5 years. 60% of the housing in Vienna, Austria was developed this way.
Immigrants want to work and provide for themselves. We need to enable them to obtain work permits in weeks rather than months. Local school districts need to receive state aid to cover additional costs of new immigrants much sooner than has been the case for most communities. We need to continue to provide emergency shelter and support services to allow immigrants to transition to stable housing, work, and educational services integrating them into our communities.
Creating reliable charging stations throughout the Commonwealth to service plug in electric vehicles. Completion of an environmental impact report on connecting North and South Stations in Boston. Train service to Pittsfield and Taunton from Boston. Shuttle service serving Concord and Lincoln for the 250th celebration in April 2025, increased funding for the MetroWest Transit Authority and G0-Sudbury. No increases in private jet flights at MassPort's 3 airports. Reductions would be welcome.
