Yes, I support election day voter registration as long as we can provide our Town Clerks the support they require to administer same day voter registration on election day. Local Town Clerks and election workers have a big job overseeing the election process. They are careful, and diligent to ensure they provide every opportunity to vote and that vote is counted. Throughout my time in office and the campaign trail, I have emphasized the importance of protecting democracy, which means upholding our right to vote and removing barriers to engaging with our democratic process. Permitting same day voter registration along with the needed administrative support to local election workers and clerks is one critical way to strengthen our democracy.
Combating the climate emergency through protecting our environment is critical to the Second Essex district. On Beacon Hill, I have worked to secure funding to help protect and restore the marshes throughout my district, combat rising water levels and prevent erosion, and provide towns with the resources needed to engage in storm recovery and resiliency preparedness. I have also focused on investing in the climate tech industries to support innovation around renewable energy and reducing our carbon footprint and investment in the electric grid so we can flip the switch from fossil fuels.
There are many ways that we can work to reduce the cost of housing and increase affordable and middle-market housing in Massachusetts. As State Representative, I have introduced bills that help diversify housing opportunities, and provide local planning and permitting tools. I supported the Housing Bond Bill, providing funding for a diversity of housing options in my district. However, we also need to ensure that needed infrastructure is in place and that outcomes are right for our communities. That is why I have filed legislation and supported infrastructure assistance planning and permitting tools that provide affordable and middle-market housing that is the right fit for each of our communities.
In Massachusetts we support children and families. We have a responsibility to help migrants in crisis, coming here legally to escape dangerous conditions in their home countries. I appreciate the work of the Biden-Harris administration - working with countries to alleviate the conditions that migrants are fleeing as well as the President’s executive order to help at the border. However, we need federal action to provide the resources and funding needed to support these families, work authorizations expedited so these families can exit our shelter system, and immigration reform to fix a system that is not working.
Transportation needs to work at all levels. We live in an area that was developed hundreds of years ago. We have roads, trails, bike paths, trains, and buses. However, like other infrastructure we desperately need an upgrade. As State Representative, I have worked to secure grants and funding to update our roads and public transportation. I support continued investments in our roads and sidewalks to ensure that people can travel safely. I continue to support MBTA system upgrades including electrification and protection against sea level rise. I support investment in public transportation to provide reliable access to jobs, healthcare and education so we can say “You CAN get there from here”.
