I am a supporter of election day voter registration and have voted in favor of this when it has come up on the floor. While advanced voter registration is the preferred option, people often lose out on the chance to vote because they have moved residences just prior to an election. There are also times when people don't realize they aren’t registered at the appropriate location until they get to the polls. This results in citizens losing their freedom to vote. Same day voter registration enables citizens to have their voice heard regardless of how long they have lived at their current address. Removing barriers to voting will lead to an increase in the number of people voting and increase civic engagement.
The climate crisis is a problem that intersects with a number policy areas. I have already introduced or co-sponsored many bills that tackle this problem and we need to continue to fight this battle on all fronts. Legislation to address Combined Sewage Overflows, which I sponsored, and efforts to keep our rivers and other waterways clean, are a necessary part of the solution. We are continually working to protect our coastline and riverfronts through funding for resiliency projects. Since these funds often come from the federal government, we work closely with both our local and federal partners.
The Legislature has recently passed bills that address clean energy, housing and economic development, all which will help address this crisis.
Our recently passed Affordable Homes Act will go a long way toward increasing the supply of housing, as well as modernizing public housing. An investment of $6.2 billion will help build homes for all income levels, assist first time home buyers, and support housing for seniors, veterans, and those facing disabilities, homelessness or recovery.
I secured $400,000 specifically for my region, to support the Merrimack Valley YMCA Residency Program and a housing assistance program in greater Lawrence.
We have a long way to go on this issue, but this bill, which I was proud to fully support, will have a major impact on housing in our state.

The Merrimack Valley Regional Transit Authority (MeVa) serves 16 cities and towns and has been available to residents at no cost since March 2022. I was a strong supporter of the pilot program for this free service, which provides a needed service to the community and increased ridership. The success of this system could be a model for other parts of the state.
I am also working on securing bus service from the Andover/Methuen area to Kendall Square and Logan Airport. This service would fill a transportation gap for underserved regions of the Commonwealth and would reduce traffic and congestion,. This would result in both convenience to those who travel this route and a reduction in overall fossil fuel consumption.
