What changes, if any, would you make at the Registry of Deeds?

What do you most want the voters to know about you as a candidate?

Ensuring that technology and software continue to be updated in order to effectively meet the needs of registry users while also aligning with the legal standards and maintaining a level of cyber security that ensures that the public records are secure and yet always available to the public. Specifically working towards a platform that is accessible on mobile devices.
Our current Land Record Management System is 20 years old. As we embark on upgrading the system I will continue to work with other Registers in the state, the Secretary of State’s Office and various vendors to ensure an effective and efficient upgrade to the system. I will evaluate, implement, and oversee the transition to the new technology. This includes ensuring minimal disruption to services, maintaining data integrity and security, and providing comprehensive training for staff to adapt to the new system. My priority is to modernize our operations to better serve the public while ensuring a seamless transition. I will continue the work of preserving and digitizing our historical documents.
In addition to English, our website is fully accessible in both Portuguese and Spanish. Our website also integrates a chatbot which can answer questions related to the registry and all content from our website in any language, making it easier for non-English speakers to access information and get assistance quickly. We continue to hold outreach programs to educate the public about how to access the records and the resources available to them. These in person workshops are valuable resources for those do not have reliable access to the internet. I am also fluent in Portuguese and proficient in Spanish, and am available for in person or over the phone support.
In my eight years leading the Registry, my priorities have been to make the registry effective, efficient, and user-friendly. Over the years we have added over 100K documents to our online database. I continued our commitment to preserving our historical records which led us to the restoration and scanning of dozens land records books from the late 1800s, safeguarding their content for future generations. Additionally, a major advancement happened with e-recording in 2020 when we partnered with Simplifile and the Martha’s Vineyard Land Bank Commission to allow deeds to be e-filed.
I am deeply committed to serving the community and ensuring the Registry of Deeds office operates with transparency and efficiency. I have the experience and knowledge necessary to manage the office effectively, maintaining the highest standards of integrity and professionalism. I am currently the president of the Massachusetts Registers and Assistant Registers of Deeds Association.
