Business retention and year-round employment are some of the biggest challenges we face here. There aren’t enough hours in a day to meet the demands during harvest season, and yet families sometimes struggle for employment during the winter months. Camas County has some of the highest skilled workers in the state and some have to travel outside of the county for employment. We also need to support our current businesses in the community while also being prepared to welcome possible new businesses to the area. Controlled growth is key in having a successful County while maintaining the rural lifestyle most locals enjoy. Being the second smallest County in the state makes it easy for Camas to slip through the cracks.
Being a local who goes through the busy seasons every year during harvest and calving; I have been forced to learn important time management skills. Time management has been important to give full attention to a full-time ranch as well as full attention as a county Commissioner. I proudly keep the mindset of being proactive and being prepared for the possibility of controlled growth rather than reacting to situations. Being prepared for opportunities that can occur here is key so we do not miss out on those opportunities than can benefit the community. The relationships I have made as County Commissioner and my continued involvement in Southern Idaho Boards and Committees will make sure Camas County receives every opportunity possible.
I will continue my involvements for the community the same as before I became Commissioner. Having a presence in the community is extremely important, it provides a great opportunity to receive feedback and answer questions to help others with their local government. Having that open presence and engaging with my constituents about their local government is actually one of my favorite parts about being an elected official.
