As a current Latah County Commissioner, I am running for re-election (first elected in 2014, and re-elected in 2016 and 2020). I chaired the Commission for three years. I recently served as chair of the five county North Central region of the Idaho Association of Counties, chosen by the elected officials of our region. I previously served seven years as a Moscow City Council member, and as a substitute Idaho State Senator in 2021. I have been appointed to numerous committees by four Moscow Mayors, two Idaho Governors, and a former U.S Secretary of Agriculture.

Since 1990, I have been the executive director of the Palouse-Clearwater Environmental Institute (PCEI). I taught Conservation Leadership for six years at the University of Idaho.
I am proud to serve all the people of Latah County as part of ‘Team Latah,’ setting the gold standard among counties of Idaho. Every day I work on a range of issues brought to me by our residents, such as: promoting fair and affordable housing, preserving open space, advocating for agriculture and small farms, enhancing mental health services, supporting our workforce with childcare options, and protecting our drinking water.

I work to foster growth in Latah County that results in well-paying jobs and thriving communities where our children choose to stay and have the opportunity to raise families. My strong commitment to solving problems and improving people’s lives is demonstrated daily through measurable results.
Latah County led the local COVID pandemic response by coordinating efforts with the cities and towns, Gritman Medical Center, the North Central Health District, and the State of Idaho to provide up-to-date information and keep people safe.

The region’s high per capita suicide rate calls me to serve as the vice-chair of the north central Idaho Behavioral Health Board. I also help sustain the Latah Recovery Center and establish the region’s innovative Rural Crisis Center Network.

I am the secretary of the Palouse Knowledge Corridor and the county’s liaison to the Palouse Basin Aquifer Committee and the Latah County Historical Society. I have led multiple community clean-ups, stream restoration projects, and open space protection efforts.
I led the initiative to hold commissioner meetings in rural Latah communities. I regularly attend rural city council meetings, and communicate frequently with leaders from cities, and highway and fire districts around the county. We updated the county website, and developed an informative social media presence. I am dedicated to quickly replying to emails and phone calls from constituents. During the pandemic, we launched an entirely new on-line meeting platform, and are currently upgrading access to county services for Latah County residents.

My leadership experience enhances the efficiency and effectiveness of local government by building good working relationships between Latah County, the State of Idaho, and our rural communities.
I am a strong advocate for Latah County residents at the local, state and national levels. I believe that every person deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, and am proud of our community’s strong values of education, inclusion, and diversity. I approach the forming of public policy with an open ear and balanced view toward promoting the economy, community, and natural resources. I build partnerships and implement proven strategies to address our community needs.

I hold a master’s degree in environmental science from Washington State University and a bachelor’s degree in biology and anthropology from the University of Delaware. My three daughters graduated from the University of Idaho.

I have served a a Latah County Commissioner on the zoning commission for the past 7 years. In private business in Latah county for 25 years. 15 of those years as a Real Estate agent working in both residential and commercial real estate. I have served for 10 years on both local and Idaho State real estate boards and Committees. I have a real world understanding of the need for strategic and purposeful economic development in Latah County. I have spent years helping local businessmen to expand and thrive in an environment that made it difficult for them rather then help them.
Once elected I will work to have strategic and purposeful economic development. We need to provide the vision for expansion and allow for zoning changes that promote business. I intend to stop micro managing county departments. If the sheriffs department needs a drug dog and they can find it in their existing budget to buy it. The commissioners have no business standing in the way. As a county we can do better with respects to transparency. The people of this county should be able to see and understand all parts of the County budget. If that budget changes during the year it should be very clear and up front with those changes.
Everything I do within the community is nonpartisan and to hep improve our communities. The past 18 months have been as: A volunteer Commissioner on the zoning commission. I volunteer with the Hockey association, Latah /county Board of realtors community outreach program, I serve as the leader at the Elks Lodge raising thousands of dollars for local charities. Such as sojourners Alliance, familys of promise, FFA, 4H, Red Cross of Idaho, dozens of school groups and Veterans. As part of the Idaho Elks state project we raise millions of dollars each year to donate back to local communities to support Veteran Rehab project. My focus has been and will always be people regardless of affiliations.
I use my personal cell number and email in all I do. I am open to conversations with anyone that would like to talk. I Love where we live and am here to help make it better. This necessitates the constant input from every community in Latah county. This needs to be a constant process as needs, wants and desires may change year too year. I will visit community meetings to hear the needs. Form relationships with community leaders to get the work done to accomplish the goals and meet their needs.
I am not a politician, rather a life long resident who cares about where we live. I want to be a part of the decisions that shape our little corner of the world for years to come. I am a common sense sort of person. I believe in honesty, integrity, transparency, commitment. If elected I will work hard to support you as the people of Latah County and protect all of the rights/ privileges we enjoy.
