VILLAGE OF LANSING ELECTION - APRIL 27, 2021Voters in the Village of Lansing will be asked to vote for: one (1) Mayor and two (2) Trustees.Village of Lansing Polling Location: Lansing Village Office, 2405 North Triphammer Road, Ithaca, NY; Polls open noon - 9 p.m.Mayor: As the chief executive officer of the village, the mayor presides over all meetings of the board of trustees and may vote on all questions coming before that body. The mayor is responsible for enforcing laws within the village and for supervising the police and other officers of the village. Subject to the approval of the board of trustees, the mayor appoints all department and non-elected officers and employees. Except in villages that have a manager, the mayor acts as the budget officer. I seek the office of Mayor as a continuation of my service and goals to help make the Village of Lansing attractive to, and supportive of, its residents and businesses.
Management experience; Process-improvement skills; Leadership skills; Facilitation skills; Collaboration skills.
Housing diversity; Aging water/sewer infrastructure; Shrinking retail businesses in an aging mall; Climate change and its impact on severe weather events.
Short-term steps: Address scarcity of workforce-affordable housing; Implement a phased approach to water/sewer infrastructure replacement; Work with mall owners to facilitate their model of subdividing the mall's retail spaces; Address greenhouse-gas emissions from Village facilities and vehicle fleet; Plan for mitigating or responding to damage from severe weather events.

Long-term steps: Work with future housing developments to include more diverse housing; Research and apply for federal and state grants to fund major infrastructure improvements; Form interest group to help attract retail businesses to the Village; Convert Village facilities from fossil fuel to clean energy use; Adapt current hazard mitigation plan to future climate-related weather events; Research and apply for federal and state grants to fund major hazard mitigation improvements.
