Special districts in Oregon are formed to govern specific resources. Examples are people’s utility districts, library districts, sewer districts, irrigation districts, ports and cemetery districts. Some districts get revenue only from taxes. Others, such as water districts, get revenue from ratepayers. Others may combine the two sources. Each district is governed by a board of directors which is responsible for the operation of the district and its financial accountability. ( https://www.oregonlaws.org/ors/198.010 )Salary: A member of the governing body of a district may receive an amount not to exceed $50 for each day or portion thereof as compensation for services performed as a member of the governing body. Such compensation shall not be deemed lucrative. The governing body may provide for reimbursement of a member for actual and reasonable traveling and other expenses necessarily incurred by a member in performing official duties. [1971 c.403 §2; 1983 c.327 §2; 1983 c.740 §53a; 1989 c.517 §1; 1995 c.79 §74]In Event of Vacancy: Except as otherwise provided by law, a vacancy in an elected office in the membership of the governing body of a district shall be filled by appointment by a majority of the remaining members of the governing body. If a majority of the membership of the governing body is vacant or if a majority cannot agree, the vacancies shall be filled promptly by the county court of the county in which the administrative office of the district is located. Your Experience/Qualificatons Over 22 years as a Law Enforcement Professional with the Curry County Sheriff's Office. I have over 2500 hours of training in various topics which include but is not limited to leadership, ethics, communication, budgeting and policy administration. Certified in both Police and Corrections with Advanced and Supervisor Certifications. Currently I am the Jail Commander and supervise 14 deputies, 2 RNs, 1 Nurse Practitioner and responsible for the welfare of adults in custody.

I believe there may be several different answers to this particular question. If I am selected to be on the Curry Health District Board, I am there to represent the citizens within the district while keeping the best interest of the entire Curry Health Network in mind. Currently a community needs assessment has been put out to obtain feedback for services the citizens believe are missing or in short supply. I’ve also spoken with people regarding services they believe the network should provide or become more efficient providing. For example, I’ve been told people want to see babies born at the new Curry General Hospital. This could be an expensive and large task to achieve. This is where I would as a board member work with other members of the board to learn what specific challenges prevent the hospital from achieving this as a goal. As a board member it’s my job to listen and understand the challenges our citizens face when it comes to finding and obtaining quality health care.
Being involved with county business over the years, I have seen where if people don’t have a chance to be heard or if they feel like they don’t have a voice progress is very slow to happen. Unfortunately when this occurs, its usually detrimental to a project or plan that would have benefited the county and it’s citizens. With this in mind, I would attempt to obtain feedback and input from the residents of the district and listen to their concerns. I also understand that most situations not everyone will agree what is the proper course of action is, but hopefully they will at least feel like they have been heard.

How to keep people informed, this could be a challenge.The answer seems simple on the surface, but I think its more complicated. Each generation likes to be informed on a different media platform. Some enjoy newspapers, others obtain news from websites, others watch YouTube, and a majority use social media to stay informed. I will have to see what works to keep people informed
The potential for me to help make a positive impact on the communities I’ve lived in and raised a family is the most important to me. Port Orford and Gold Beach communities have given me so much throughout the years, I believe I have a chance to give back what has been given to me. I have seen the growth in Curry Health Network, which seems to continue upward. I also see highly skill professionals from medical providers through diagnostic staff being attracted to Curry Health Network to work. I want to be part of the solution that continues to bring these professionals to our area. Strong and stable health care is one of the pillars of a strong and successful community. It’s also important to me to make sure the voices throughout the district are heard.

This is a question that can be answered in many ways. If elected, this obviously calls for a meeting with all board members to discuss all day to day challenges and areas to improve and what is needed to provide more services to our district and to be able to establish Curry Health Network as a Premier Provider. Our residents have many options for finding quality health care. Lets make their choice Curry Health Network. This is an area for improvement which needs additional creative marketing and input from our district. I feel improved districts build a culture of commitment, collegiality, mutual respect, and stability. The costs of improvement can be daunting, however, the social costs of not improving a district can be worse. Again, I make no promises but meeting these challenges requires a shared vision for improvement, a sustained focus on improvement goals and a sense of teamwork. I will give it my all, thats a promise.
Involving the residents in our district has practical, philosophical, and ethical benefits. People have the right to influence what effects them. Curry Health Network is not a full service Hospital, but close. Need to improve in Marketing our Hospital to better promote their services. Need to create more state of the art services to better serve our community. Constantly hear that Sutter Coast is our competitor. WHO IS OUR CLIENT? How can we better serve their needs. The more information provided for decision making can make the difference between a good and bad decision. I trust I will build new and better relationships with our district with a deep understanding of my community and to address it's day to day challenges. I am motivated to contribute to the needs of my community. To keep all informed is a real challenge as we have different age groups with different social media platforms. Will need to work on getting feedback in this area.
RESULTS! RESULTS! RESULTS! DISTRICT VISION! I can't make any promises but I can tell you that I have a deep understanding and passion for the community I live in and want nothing more than to help to make my community the best it can be and a destination town. I am presently on the Gold Beach Mainstreet committee as well as the Library committee. I come to you fresh , not influenced by outsiders and I will learn all that is necessary to make my job as a volunteer on the board beneficial to all. I will work hard to make sure that all voices are heard.
