Wheatland Township Clerk

Vote for 1Wheatland Township is a six-by-six square mile area that was established in 1849. As it predates all other forms of government, it is located in Will County, IL and encompasses portions of The City of Naperville, Village of Plainfield, City of Aurora, Village of Bolingbrook and City of Romeoville.The primary purpose of Wheatland Township is to serve as the local representative government for the unincorporated areas of the above municipalities. Per state statute, this MUST include assessor services, road and drainage maintenance and general assistance services. Wheatland Township has two distinct divisions of government: the township and the road district.The Township Administration includes the Department of Assessor Services, the Wheatland Township Cemetery and the Wheatland Township Park. The Township Board includes an elected Supervisor and four Trustees to govern township operations. Other elected officials include: Assessor, who oversees the Assessor Services, Clerk, who serves as the recorder and Will County liaison and Tax Collector, who oversees Cemetery operations. The Cemetery, in accordance with State Law, has its own board that reports directly to the Supervisor.The Road District is governed by an elected Road Commissioner who coordinates all things relative to road and drainage projects. With journalism degree from Northern Illinois University and more than 25 years of financial marketing and communications experience, I have a broad range of skills that will help me to succeed as Wheatland Township Clerk including writing, communications, promotional, media relations, social media management, events management as well as government relations, investor relations, budgeting and supervisory expertise. I am also an active community participant and working mother who has resided in Wheatland Township for nearly 20 years. I have benefitted from this community and want to contribute in a way that will ensure our Township remains a destination of choice, providing services that will help others live, work and thrive.
Certainly, there are a number of important day-to-day issues facing the Clerk's office that help ensure services continue operate, budgets are kept and deadlines met. However, I would also suggest there are a number of opportunities this position could exploit to expand understanding of not only the Clerk's office functions but also to generate broader awareness of the importance of Township governance, services available as well as those that could/should be added and increase a strong sense of community.

Likewise, developing and contributing to efforts to increase voter participation in elections at the local, state and federal level is something about which I am personally passionate and look forward to identifying programs that will inspire current as well as the next generation of residents to get involved and have their voice heard.
Collaboration is key. I believe there are opportunities to reduce costs and expand outreach by partnering in new ways with other Townships as well as county and other local government bodies as appropriate. I look forward to working with my colleagues on the Township slate as well as others in office to extend the reach and maximize the strenghts of our collective community.
Transparency and accountability are important as is community education regarding the benefits of Township government, including the Clerk's office, the services it provides and the value it delivers. A few things I would recommend include a more open and transparent bidding process for service providers and contractors. Additionally, I would also recommend and implement the development of a comprehensive communications plan to ensure timely information, reports and other communications are available to the community, including programs to celebrate and promote "wins," acknowledge issues and encourage feedback which would all further support increased transparency and accountability.
