I believe that educational programs should receive 1st priority including teacher salaries and classroom teaching materials. As we are a growing district and have a newly completed school, capital infrastructure improvements should be minimal for the next 10 years and should allow the board to focus on improving the number of qualified staff for all grades K-12 in order to provide higher standards and more one on one help between the teachers and their students. Promotion of secondary education will provide more opportunities for students in our rural area to make decisions on their future regardless of their decision to remain in the community or explore work in other areas. I do not foresee spending priorities changing drastically during this time if there is a reduction in revenue based on the current health of the District finances. Secondarily I believe improvements need to be made to provide more opportunities for students in FFA, sports and shop classes.
My largest concern is that the current construction project be closely managed during the warranty period to insure that no items remain at the end of that period that create an additional burden to the school's capital fund and that the contract items are completed prior to releasing the contractor. My second concern is the management of staff and teachers to insure that teaching staff has adequate support to reduce complaints regarding student behavior and an effective procedure for parent teacher concerns and/or complaints.
I believe conflict resolution falls on the shoulders of the Superintendent and Principal with effective discussion between the teaching staff so that well informed decisions are made without affecting the remainder of the students within a class or the school. Those decisions should be made in a manner that does not single out an individual or situation to the detriment of the other students or that individual unless it is justified. If that situation requires additional support I believe the Board can become involved to provide consensus for resolution.
