Background My name is Annelies Cunis, I am originally from the Netherlands and I have been a resident of Northglenn for over twenty years and have raised my family here. Being a homemaker for 23 years, I have been an active member in the community. I am also a small business owner for the last ten years in Home Health care. I work part time as a health aide in the Jeffco Public schools, and have previous experience in publishing. I believe I can be a great representative for Ward Four and have long-range vision for our community.

I strongly believe the city council should always keep the best interests and safety of the residential and business communities in mind, with careful thought and budget management, when prioritizing repairs/projects in Northglenn either of increased or decreased revenues.
I believe some of our biggest challenges facing our city are community safety for individuals, families and businesses. I want to continue to strengthen police- community relations and our fire and rescue departments to keep up with our growing population. Economic growth is important for Northglenn and its future. During the last twenty years, I have seen positive economic growth. I want to continue positive growth and be carefully considering impacts on our residents, for example traffic patterns, parking solutions and environmental impact. With limited land-use development available, we can continue to revitalize empty buildings/sites with residential and business community input using common sense to move forward.
I want to continue keeping Northglenn a great city to live in and believe some of my strengths, that will make me a dependable candidate for City Council, are leadership, teamwork and professionalism, and working well with people from all backgrounds. I will respect the opinions, thoughts and ideas of my community and council members while always having a positive attitude and setting realistic goals.

My vision for the City of Northglenn is that all city residents enjoy a great quality of life with healthy and safe neighborhoods, a community of outstanding schools, and continuing economic growth.

Background Baby Boomer Paul C. Kelly is a proud native of Northglenn CO.Attending Westview Elementary, North Huron Junior High School and Northglenn High School. Graduating in 1979 as Senior Class Vice President, Kelly went on to graduate from the University of Missouri - Columbia in 1985. During his school days at MIZZOU Kelly managed both teh Men's and Women's Swim teams. He was also a proud member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity and served as both Pledge trainer and Chairman of Lambda Chi's Annual Fundraiser. Kelly has been married to Eloise since 1990. They have raised 3 children, twin sons Christopher and Collin were both born in Northglenn, where Kelly purchased his first home. Kelly's wife Eloise a graduate of CSU is a retired United Airlines Flight attendat and owner of Events by Eloise. Their adopted daughter Jennifer gave them their first grandchild Olivia. Daughter Jennifer a graduate of JWU is preparing to attend DU Law School. Son Christopher a graduate of the College of William & Mary is currently completing Officers Candidate School for the United States Army as he prepares to enroll in College of RIchmond (VA) Law School. Son Collin, a graduate of Boston University is preparing to attend MIT to complete his MBA. After graduating from MIzzou, Kelly immediately entered the Hospitality industry when he was appointed Assistant General Manager and Food & Beverage Director of the Jefferson City (MO) Country Club. Kelly eventually returned to Denver and was offered a position as a recruiter fro Johnson & Wales University (JWU) -Denver campus. When Kelly retired from JWU as Director of Industry Relations, he accepted a position in private industry which relocated his family to SC. Kelly eventually returned returned to Northglenn to care for his aging parents. Kelly has always been involved in Volunteering, Community Involvement and Fundraising, Kelly volunteer and community involvement include; Denver Museum of Nature and Science, Denver Zoo, Good Shepherd Teachers Foundation, Catholic Charities, Make-A-Wish, Diana Price Fish Cancer Foundation, 100 Black Men of Denver and JWU Club Managers Association of America, among others. Kelly plans to utilize the experience he gained through Leadership Denver Class of 2006 if elected to the Northglenn City Council.

Prioritizing spending in & by the City of Northglenn should be conducted responsibly and transparently by “Living Within Our Means!”

In the most basic terms, previously committed spending should be honored based upon the availability of funds. Projects that are being considered should be determined on availability of funds, without taking on new long term debt or increased homeowner taxes.

If the City of Northglenn finds itself with decreased revenues, responsible government stewards should seek alternative solutions to effectively realize how to honor the existing expenditures.

If the City of Northglenn finds itself with increased revenues, responsible government stewards should review every spending expenditure to determine which ones can be reduced or retired with the surplus used to allow for new or increased spending in other areas.
Maintaining serices for our current Investors:

Current residents and small business owners initially invested in the City of Northglenn for a myriad of reasons. Their reasons and choices are as varied as the number of residents and small business owners. As a City we must determine, maintain and possibly upgrade which existing services are required to keep our current residents and small businesses owners (Investors) on board for the long term. Over time our existing investors will retire, relocate to a new location that is more aligned with their new lifestyle and/or die off.

Attracting and developing /building for Future Investors:

How to become a more attractive and affordable city to both working families and tax paying businesses. What services do working families and business require and seek out that would encourage them to invest in the City of Northglenn through home ownership. What services can the City offer tax paying businesses to encourage investment?

Background My 6 brothers and I grew up in the east Denver neighborhood of Congress Park. My dad graduated from Colorado School of Mines and although my mother received a 4 year academic scholarship to Loretto Heights University, she opted to get married and raise 7 children. I met my husband at UNC Greeley, we married in 1980 and purchased a home at 9950 Lunceford Court in Northglenn. We raised 3 children in Northglenn and have 7 grandchildren. I retired in 2016, with my most recent assignment as a Spatial Data Manager, after working 38 years in the Energy Industry. I now work 2 days per week as a finance and program analyst at the Natural Resource Conservation Service at the Federal Center. I am the Driver Coordinator at Immaculate Heart of Mary's foodbank and sit on the Northglenn Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. I volunteer for the Northglenn High School Cross Country Team and was involved with Northglenn Youth Commission, Northglenn Soccer Club, and Northglenn Youth Football Association. I am an avid runner, love to read and Grand Cayman Island is my favorite vacation destination.

The City of Northglenn’s budget is built on a strategic framework, to meet the desired level of services by the community, to invest in city infrastructure and to build sustainability for the future. I agree with this prioritization and approach as its focus comes from the Northglenn community. Sustained job growth and a healthy economy equals a strong tax base and sales tax revenue is critical. Northglenn must be able to generate enough revenue to keep pace with the major programs driving the general fund expenditures. Northglenn must have a long-term planning approach to complement the annual budget process. A long-term plan should address any fiscal imbalance. The proposed 2020 Capital Projects are necessary as they focus on needed city maintenance. The new Recreation Center has been funded without raising taxes and is first on the Capital Projects list. The remaining projects include street maintenance or improvements, water facilities, traffic and school safety.
Cities are where we come together to live, work and play. Providing needed services to residents and growing our economy are the two greatest concerns for Northglenn. The alleviation of crime, keeping community members protected, affordable housing, safe schools, workforce development, clean parks and trails and uniform traffic flow are all key services that need our attention today. The challenge for any small city is the ability to attract, train and retain city employees. Convincing thinkers and doers to focus on our city is crucial as our future is forged by their actions. Northglenn must make it easy for entrepreneurs to start or grow new businesses as Economic Development is vital for Northglenn. Innovative ideas, entrepreneurship and social dynamism drive a healthy, vibrant city.
The concept of conflict resolution is described as the method and processes involved in facilitating peaceful endings to conflict and retribution. Seeking Common Ground is my approach. Open communication ensures everyone understands the problem. All involved parties should be able to express their concerns in an environment where they will be listened to, respectfully. When you seek common ground, you collaborate and ask questions which may reveal the root cause of the conflict making it easier to identify common goals and to focus attention on the specific issue that should be discussed. Common objectives may be revealed even if there are differences in how to achieve these objectives. The role of a City Councilor is to serve the greater good and not a platform to meet personal needs. A well-informed, committed group of individuals allows for a focused team and removes the need to win. Common Ground helps build understanding, acceptance and recovery from a difficult situation
