I have been a judge at the Garfield Heights Municipal Court since January 1, 2000. I am currently serving my third six-year term and am running for my fourth term this November.
My experience as a mother has taught me patience and the knowledge that every person is a unique individual with special value. Two of my children have a severe medical disability. Caring for them and reflecting upon what they have had to endure has been a difficult but rewarding journey. It has provided me with a deep understanding of the suffering of others and the effect that may have upon their lives. Every person coming to the court has his or her own set of circumstances and problems although they may not be obvious on the surface.
I have had a very satisfying career as a judge and would be honored to continue serving for another term in that position. I enjoy working with all kinds of people and having the opportunity to try to be a positive influence in their lives. The most important skill as an attorney and judge is to be a good listener in order to understand the concerns and problems of others and help point them in the right direction going forward. I also enjoy teaching and writing about the law which has been greatly enhanced by my work as a judge. As a planner and presenter for the Ohio Judicial College, I am able to call upon my experiences on the bench and work with other judges to grow and sharpen our collective skills and knowledge. I am co-author of an Ohio legal treatise, “Ohio Driving Under the Influence Law” published by Thomson Reuters. This has presented a very unique way to integrate my work with my interest in legal writing.
