As a magisterial district judge, I work every day to ensure those appearing before the court are treated fairly and with respect. I seek reelection because I enjoy serving the public and trying to continuously improve our judiciary. I consider the Magisterial District Court one of the most important courts in Pennsylvania’s judicial system because it is the only court most citizens will ever encounter, which means a person's experience forms his or her confidence in the Pa. judiciary.
I recuse myself when the rules of judicial conduct specifically require my recusal. Moreover, I voluntarily recuse myself whenever an appearance of impropriety or bias may be present. In cases where I may not be required to recuse myself, but I am concerned about a potential appearance of impropriety, I immediately disclose my concern and allow the parties to determine whether a recusal is necessary.
Judges should help advance the judicial system and educate the public about the courts and the law. For example, I drafted a legal position paper leading to the passage of Senate Bill 850, which sealed juvenile records at the magisterial district courts. I instituted an alternative adjudication program aimed at diverting young offenders from the court system while at the same time holding the students accountable for their behavior. I routinely provide lectures to schools and community groups.
