Given the tax cap and the fact infrastructure improvements are not taken into account our most important issue is fiscal responsibility. We have to manage our debt moving forward and still provide a high level of service to our residents. Our approach has been to form a Financial Sustainability Committee, staffed with volunteers from the finance industry, to evaluate our positions and provide guidance. As a result we now have a debt limit and reserve policy in our village.
We continue to seek opportunities to increase the supply of affordable housing in our village, although we are virtually built out. We have also made adjustments to our accessory apartment guidelines to help residents stay in their homes.

Environmental protection is first and foremost. Next, my hometown is deeply divided. There is much anger, fear, and mistrust, ICE arrests and homes flying confederate flags. I will bring the conversation about civil liberties into the government arena and support legislation protecting all residents from federal intrusion, as far as the law allows. I fully believe in fiscal responsibility and caring for infrastructure, but preserving the planet, and freedom, is what I'm most passionate about.
Croton-on-Hudson is very much in need of more fair and affordable housing, and I believe we are going to have to be creative in our approach to finding or re-imagining old spaces in order to move forward on this extremely important issue. I was told by an experienced and wise person that not having any space left is not an impediment to creating more affordable housing. I want to look at all available spaces, and approach this issue in an open-minded, non-traditional and creative way.

I think the best approach to the important issues facing the Village of Croton is to educate myself thoroughly. I am a strong believer in the need for more and better communication between government and citizens, so once informed I would share the information I have gathered with residents. In my long experience as a small business owner and a teacher of young children, I prefer the collaborative approach and would encourage active participation of all residents in the decision making process.
I would like to see an increase in fair and affordable housing in Croton. I believe it is important for the social and economic health of our Village to reflect the diversity of the larger community in which we live. Due to the recent re-zoning of the Harmon Gateway area to allow for mixed use development, we are seeing an increase in rental apartments in the Village, but I believe we also need to encourage more fair and affordable housing options as well.

As a community, we must prioritize responsible, long-term financial planning in all public policy decisions. Unlike some neighboring communities, Croton no longer has large tracts of vacant land that could potentially expand our commercial or residential tax base. In the current climate of steadily rising costs and unfunded mandates, we must work collaboratively to find ways to maintain and improve the quality of life for all residents while ensuring our continued financial sustainability.
Our community includes seniors who were born and raised here, empty-nesters who arrived some time ago to raise their families, and newcomers from the city and other places who have recently chosen to make Croton their home. In a fully developed community like ours, increasing the supply of fair and affordable housing starts with a commitment to keep home ownership and rents affordable by keeping taxes low today, and finding ways to decrease knowable future costs through prudent fiscal planning. logo
