Prior Civic Service I was the founder of the Human Dignity Committee in the East Meadow School District. I chaired the council for four years and was the vice-president of the PTA. I also was involved with assisting victims of domestic violence and aiding in translation services.
I am running for my third term as Town Clerk. I have 19 years of public service and I have worked in every department of the Clerk’s office for 15 years as a civil service employee. My experience has allowed me to transform the office. We have created efficiency and cut spending by 25%. We have bilingual staff in each department and offer translation services in 17 languages. The Clerk’s office now has extended hours and many of our forms are available online. We have transparency by having all the minutes for the board meetings online. I’m extremely proud of my mobile Town Hall and having one of the only Mobile Passport Agencies in America! I believe serving the public is a trust that has been given to me. I value this trust and continually strive to improve my services for all the residents of the Town of Hempstead.

I have the independence and integrity to be a fighter and watchdog for residents. I believe that the Clerk's office should be more transparent and accessible. It is currently inefficient and not customer service friendly. Because of my background as a bilingual Spanish speaking immigration attorney, I am highly aware of the frustrations that residents face when trying to access simple records and documents. When phoning or visiting the Clerk's office, there is not a welcoming atmosphere and not a willingness to be of service to the public. I will change that by bringing my professionalism, sense of caring and awareness of the many diverse cultures within the Town. The public will be better served by expanding town hours, making records digitally accessible and providing translation service for foreign documents. I will open up Town Hall by finally unlocking the closed doors of government that have led to corruption and cronyism. logo
