Bridgewater Raritan Regional School District - Bridgewater {_getChooseLabel(this.selections.length)}

The Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District (BRRSD), in collaboration with the community, provides a balanced, challenging, and comprehensive education that meets or exceeds New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards and empowers every student to achieve his or her full potential as a lifelong learner and contributing member of society.The district's nine-member Board of Education is apportioned by population between Bridgewater and Raritan. Since the early 1990s, Bridgewater has elected eight of the board members and Raritan has elected one. This election is for two members from Bridgewater. Each serving a three year term.

Qualifications/Experience I attended Carnegie Mellon University and received a Bachelor of Science in Physics. Following graduation, I began working for the US Army testing systems for live fire vulnerability requirements. Following that, I moved into product sales and marketing for over 20 years in the test and evaluation market place. Through this work, I had the opportunity to support the successful development and production of products in all areas of various companies. Most recently, over the last 13 years, I have had the best job in the world of being a full time Dad. This has been the most fulfilling position I have held to date.

I believe that people should be encouraged to ask questions, never accept things as status quo. Beyond just asking questions, finding answers and potential solutions is equally important. That philosophy prompted me to run and to successfully be elected to the Bridgewater Raritan Regional School District (BRRSD) Board of Education (BOE) in 2014. Serving on the BOE has been quite a privilege. I do my best to perform this duty at the highest level. My fellow board members, the district administration and New Jersey School Boards Association have provided me a wealth of support, training and guidance which has helped me become an effective and collaborative board member. I have served on numerous BOE committees as a member and chairman (Finance Facilities & Transportation, Community Relations, Personnel, Harassment Intimidation Bullying (HIB)). In addition, I had the opportunity to serve as the board liaison to the District Technology Committee, Education Foundation of Bridgewater Raritan, BRRSD Council of School, and Somerset County Educational Services Commission. This provided me the opportunity to see and contribute to different aspects and organizations which are supporting and interacting with the district.

I was an active member of the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) at Crim, Hillside and the Middle School. I volunteered on numerous committees and served at Hillside PTO’s treasurer. This involvement provided me with the opportunity to get engaged with fellow parents, teachers & staff, and to make some great friends along the way. I have served my local church including volunteering as a religious education teacher for 6 years, was a volunteer soccer coach, and was a Boy Scout Leader just after college.
The three most important areas facing the district are student achievement, social and emotional wellness of our students and sound financial processes. Student achievement is primary because preparing our students for graduation and being lifelong learners is our task. Curriculum, instructional excellence, technology and extracurricular activities work in synergy together enable our student to excel. The ability to keep improving these areas will ensure our students achieve.

Social and emotional wellness of our students is an essential part of their education. We would like our students to be responsible citizens who are engaged with others and the community around them. We want them to feel welcome and safe in the educational environment and the world. This can be accomplished through district wide programs, family and community involvement, as well as leading by example.

Sound financial processes are important because utilizing our taxes effectively and efficiently provides ongoing funding support for student achievement. BRRSD has begun a new budget process setting up permanent allocations for curriculum, technology and facilities. The permanent allocations will ensure that the district is engaging in a proactive strategic approach to the future of the district. I believe this innovative approach is a fiscally wise plan to ensure future funding that will benefit present and future students. Some of those future needs are enhancing educational programs such as Full Day Kindergarten, new courses and programs, student safety and security, and maintaining and updating district facilities to the highest level.
