Experience (300 characters max) As Chief Officer at Central Pierce Fire & Rescue for 24 years, I managed logistics, EMS, Training and Public Education. As a Public Information Officer, I worked with numerous community groups, service clubs, and homeowner associations. Teaching fire prevention education to all ages
Most all of the upper management retired, leaving people in charge that have little to no experience with how the fire department was run and why we made certain decisions in the past. The current Fire Commissioners have no long term history of the department and can not make proper decisions without proper input. The current young upper management staff needs someone with the history and knowledge about the fire department and I feel i have the knowledge, history and reasons behind why we did what we did in the past. They need someone to help guide them through tough financial decisions so they are not wasting time, resources and public monies. We need to look into the future and make good financial decisions so that we can provide the proper services to our public in a timely manner at a reasonable cost, while making sure our firefighters are well trained and are kept as safe as we can make them through proper training, education and protective measures.
1) Fiscal responsibility 2) Proper training and education for our firefighters 3) Proper equipment so the firefighters can do their job effectively
1) Fiscal Responsibility
There are four major divisions in the fire service, in my career I had the opportunity to oversee each of those four major divisions. This not only allows me to better understand how each division should run, it allows me to also understand the cost and resources necessary to properly run each of those divisions. As a division head you are responsible for a portion of the budget, as well as tracking monies and working with finance to ensure that your goals are met without overspending. I worked preparing the fire department budget for 24 years. I spent a great amount of time writing bids specifications, grants, and policies. I also worked with vendors, and other county agencies, and fire departments to see how we all could best save our taxpayers money through joint purchasing. I was the Public Information Officer for eleven years and worked closely with every community group, civic group and home owners association to keep them informed and making sure we were meeting their needs
