Experience (300 characters max) I have experience in several fields working with people aging from infants to elderly. I have worked for several years in the healthcare field as a CNA and I was very active in a healthcare union as a bargainer, lobbyist and activist.
Our City has several issues that are being improved and changed. We have new roundabouts that are not favored by many but are still new and will take getting used to. Our roads are being paved and new sidewalks being added. I think the City is doing well with growth and change but think we need to encourage more businesses to enter the community.
I think a lot of homelessness in this area stem from drug use, alcoholism and high cost of housing. We have few resources for homeless and fewer resources for those with addiction issues. Increasing businesses and jobs would benefit the working poor in the area.
I worked in healthcare as a Certified Nursing Assistant in several settings including Homecare, Nursing Home, Boardinghome and Assisted Living. I have great respect for seniors and would love to see more options for proper care of seniors in Clarkston so that families do not have to be separated by distance due to available care.
I do not see that Clarkston has many issues with illegal immigration but I would say our City should follow State and Federal guidelines.
Public Safety is a concern in Clarkston due to the high cost of maintenance and I think we need to consider more options regarding growth and tax structure to keep and maintain the services we have currently.
I would say the budget is the most urgent so that we can maintain what we do have and increase services for more programs to help the community with poverty issues.
I would want to work with the Mayor and the Council and include the community in ideas to improve the City of Clarkston.
