Town where you live Beautiful Kenmore, Washington!
Experience (300 characters max) When I first ran in 2013 I promised to build sidewalks, make our government more open and transparent, and to work to open up our waterfront. Since then we've built more than 3 miles of new sidewalk, installed a camera in Council Chambers, and passed a bond measure which will open water access.
Like many suburban communities we are lacking sidewalks in many of our neighborhoods. We have made great strides in recent years - since 2014 we have built over 3 miles of new sidewalk and we have 3+ more miles in the pipeline. This is a good start, but it is just a start, and we must continue to focus on making our city safe for pedestrians.
We must be compassionate, and recognize that homelessness isn't a Seattle problem but rather is a regional problem that every city should be working together to address. We must ensure that our policies don't treat homelessness as a crime, and that we work with churches and other service providers who want to provide shelter.

I am proud to have introduced Mary's Place, a wonderful family shelter, to the idea of using the old Kenmore police precinct as a shelter. The people of Kenmore came out and helped transform the precinct into a home - it was great to work with my neighbors building bunk beds, and I am excited that this great organization is helping families here in Kenmore. I will continue to be a voice for those in need.
I am proud of the partnership that the City has with the Northshore Senior Center which helps fund their Kenmore branch in Rhododendron Park.

We must also work to ensure that our seniors are able to age in place, if they wish, and aren't forced from their home by property taxes.
I don't believe that the city has any place or responsibility to act as an arm of the Trump/Sessions ICE. Immigration is a federal issue, and is not the purview of the city.
Transportation, affordable housing, and the development of the Lakepointe property.
Transportation. A city where residents can't get around is not a successful city. This is why I worked hard to ensure that projects for Kenmore were included in the Sound Transit 3 ballot measure. The Bus Rapid Transit along 522 between Bothell and Shoreline will predictably and quickly get our commuters to either light rail to downtown Seattle or Everett, or to 405 BRT to Bellevue. We must ensure that this is done well, and that it meshes with the rest of our transportation infrastructure.

This is also why we must continue to build out our sidewalk and bike lane network, to give people options in how to move around the city.
We have a Council/Manager form of government. I have a good relationship with our City Manager. We meet regularly to go over issues that the city is facing. He is a listener, and once he gets direction from the Council he delivers.
