Prior Civic Service Executive Director, Division of Minority and Women Business Development, Empire State Development Corp. ; Director of Equal Employment Opportunity and Deputy Director of the Office of Minority Affairs of Nassau County
As County Clerk, I will advocate on behalf of Nassau County taxpayers in the following ways.1.) I will vocally and actively oppose increases to County Clerk fees, and I will simultaneously work with my colleague elected officials to identify practical ways to trim operational budgets while maintaining services countywide. 2.) I will perform an audit of internal County Clerk operations and use the findings to reduce expenses while installing performance standards geared toward improved service delivery. 3.) As part of that audit, I will review all existing contracts to ensure that the County Clerk’s office is getting the best value for the best service or product. Where this is found not to be the case, I will undertake a program of competitive bidding. 4.) Unlike the current County Clerk, I will publish annual reports on a thorough and timely basis so that Nassau County taxpayers can see clearly how the office of County Clerk is managed operationally and financially.
Government money is taxpayer money. Efficient budgeting and use of taxpayer money was a primary responsibility during my service to Nassau County as Director of Equal Employment Opportunity and Deputy Director of the Office of Minority Affairs, and during my service to NY State as Executive Director of the Division of Minority and Women Business Development. In these public service positions, I worked to install efficiencies that resulted in enhanced service while maintaining or reducing taxpayer cost. For example, during my work for the State I oversaw my division’s first-ever audit unit to ensure a balanced cost/benefit ratio, and I introduced technology to streamline service. As County Clerk, I will audit operations, review all contracts, and leverage technology to keep expenses in check and ensure that taxpayers are getting the best value. I intend to manage the Nassau County Clerk’s office as a lean agency characterized by improved efficiency and service, and zero abuse and waste.

As the Nassau County Clerk and Clerk of the Supreme Court I am a New York State Constitutional Officer charged with maintaining the official records relating to real property ownership and Supreme Court actions. During my tenure I have implemented technology to streamline services and create efficient processes. I have implemented electronic filing of court and land records allowing residents and professionals to conduct business with the Clerk's office remotely. The Nassau County Clerk's office is one of the highest volume electronic filers in New York State. I have also created remote access to the records on file with the Clerk's office to provide residents ease of access to the vital documents my office maintains on their behalf. I will continue to bring about initiatives consistent with my goals of providing an enhanced level of service in an efficient and professional manner.
The Nassau County Clerk's office is one of the most efficient offices in County government. The revenue generated by the Clerk's office far exceeds the cost to operate it. While the Clerk's office has been impacted by statutory fee increases, I have and will continue to speak out in opposition to excessive fees that are not consistent with the services my office provides. logo
