Longtime GPW resident. It has been my privilege to serve the GPW community as a Councilmember since 1997, and work with the Mayor and Council to address important issues. Through careful budgeting and fiscal forecasting, we have been able to preserve city services during the economic downturn that began in 2008, and drastically affected property values, and in turn, property tax collection. We have worked with City Administration to find grants to address Public Safety and Infrastructure issues. We have worked with our unions to seek fair contracts, including health care. I worked diligently to pass the road millage proposal to fix roads.
Infrastructure, public safety, and upgrading Lakefront Park are the most important issues we face as a community. The economic downturn affected the availability of materials and contractors for road repairs. Our engineers have worked with the city to "rate"roads and recommend the best solutions to use dollars as wisely as possible. We work closely with Public Safety to ensure GPW remains a safe community, and have taken advantage of grants. We continue to reach out, seeking collaborations. I know residents are eager for a "splash pad," and we need to find a combination of Foundation, tax dollars, and donations to make this a reality.
