The most important challenge currently facing Manville's Municipal budget is the loss of tax revenue created by several years of flood buyouts. Additionally, the Rustic Mall is a potential source of tax revenue but it has remained undeveloped and vacant for years. My running mate and I have a plan that is vastly different from previous housing plans. It will change the face of Manville for years to come.
New ordinances and resolutions aren't the solution. The solution lies in good old-fashioned roll up your sleeves work. One of our initiatives is to establish a local chamber of commerce. The idea is to work together to create a Manville we can all be proud of. Currently, it seems as though the governing body and business community are working separately rather than cooperatively. We have laid out a plan on how to get this accomplished.
I am fairly certain that any cuts that could have been made to both budgets, have already been made. The challenge lies on the other side of the budget...the revenue side. We need to develop the Rustic Mall Property. It has been vacant so long that even a "bad" plan looks good at this point. Seriously though. We have a plan that is very different from housing and very different from anything our neighboring communities are doing. It will increase the daytime population without affecting the school enrollment, AND offer something else to our residents at night.
