My number one goal as a 3rd Ward Councilman for the Town of Greece is to ensure that the approximately 25,000 people who live in my ward have a representative in town government who is always working on their behalf and serving as an effective voice for their concerns. For any elected official, appropriately and effectively serving their constituents should be their number one goal and if successful, their number one accomplishment.
I believe that we have a duty to take necessary measures to protect and preserve the environment and green space for future generations. The Town of Greece has always shown tremendous dedication to the environment, annually being named as a “Tree City, USA.” I look forward to working with Supervisor Reilich and my colleagues in town government to balance the needs of development and protection of our town green space. The 3rd Ward is home to the Greece portion of the Erie Canal and I will work to ensure that the town is maximizing this amazing resource both for existing residents and for future generations.
Greece’s 3rd Ward has a wide variety of housing options available to residents. As Councilman, I will work to ensure that housing is available to residents that fit their needs. The Town of Greece is already very active in enforcing town code and are responsive to residents when they believe that a property is out of code compliance. The Town of Greece and Supervisor has been very proactive in allowing residents to directly report potential code violations and working to ensure that rented homes are being maintained. Additionally, the Town enacted a local code where landlords must register with the town so that they may be on record if any issues with the property arise. When looking at the issue of zoning, we must respect the integrity of neighborhoods, while being cognizant of potential to possibly reinvigorate and grow that neighborhood and the town as a whole.
With the Town of Greece being the largest town in Monroe County by quite a large margin, we must be creative on how we can agree to shared services with other municipalities yet still maintain the first-class services that have come to be expected by taxpayers. Certainly, I will work with the Supervisor and colleagues in town government to examine the needs of the town and its residents and how shared services with neighboring communities would have the potential to benefit the town and save taxpayer funds.
The Town of Greece and Supervisor have already begin forward thinking action in this area by recently installing a solar farm to offset costs of power for parts of town infrastructure. As a Town Councilman, I am certainly open to increasing the amount of solar and other alternative energy solutions to power town buildings and infrastructure. Not only would this make the Town of Greece a partner in green energy solutions, decrease government use of fossil fuels but would save taxpayer funds. Additionally, we can work with developers who wish to build projects within the Town of Greece to move towards more sustainable and carbon neutral developments. logo
