Experience (300 characters max) Pacific Northwest Ballet board, Washington Technology Center trustee, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center board, Clean Energy Leadership Council member, National Parks Foundation board, Technology Alliance board president and chair, University of Washington regent.
Lake Chelan Community Hospital is undergoing a major change with the passing of a bond issue to fund the construction of a new hospital. At the same time, reimbursement for hospitals for the care they provide is also undergoing major change. With my experience as a technology entrepreneur and regent for the University of Washington, I felt I could bring new, needed expertise to the board.
Building a new hospital, navigating the coming changes to Medicaid, and navigating the changes in Medicare as payments change to incentivize preventative and outpatient care over inpatient services
Construction of a new hospital. The hospital plans to use a General Contractor / Construction Manager methodology, one which none of the commissioners or staff has had any experience doing before.
As a UW Regent and chair of the board’s Finance and Asset Management committee, I’ve had experience with this method of construction for four years. GC/CM is the least effective method for controlling costs compared to other construction methods, but it does provide a more predictable budget and schedule. The board needs commissioners with experience if we are to be successful with this project.

I decided to run for a second term, because one term just isn't enough time to accomplish all that I set out to do in my first term. High on my list was to get a Bond vote passed to build a replacement Hospital. This takes a 60% yes of the voting electorate to pass ( a super majority). Our first attempts during my tenure came up short, 58% just wouldn't get us to that goal. This Spring with lots of hands and hearts joining together, we were able to secure a strong 64+% yes vote. It is going to take three years to complete this project and I would like to finish the job I started and continue to get our new facility built. I would also like to see us bring our Clinic out to the same campus as our new Hospital. It is important to keep the efforts begun moving without interruption. The continuity, consistency and direction called for by our Community is a commitment I know I can deliver. This is why I decided to seek this position for another term.
1. The changing demographics emerging within our small Community, in the form of: patient needs, the integration and diversification of care givers. 2. Staffing on all levels. 3. Managing the changes in the Medical payer systems emerging. The ways in which Critical Access Hospitals and Rural Hospitals are reimbursed by the Federal and State Government.

All three are very important issues, if I have to focus on one as most urgent it would be staying on top of the reimbursement systems on both the Federal and State levels for Medicare and Medicaid.
I bring to the job of being a LCCHC Hospital Commissioner the experiences of proven leadership on the Board of Commissioners over the last 6 years. I bring local experiences that directly benefits our Hospital District 2 Community. I have worked in the Chelan Valley for 31 years, I've established the working relationships it takes time to create among the care givers, the providers and administration. I bring commitment to working tirelessly to provide the patient centered healing and wellness opportunities necessary to providing quality health care in our Hospital District. I bring Continuity and Consistency. Lastly, as Board Chair, I am involved with the replacement hospital building management team and working every step of the way to laying the ground work for the selecting and hiring of the General Contractor Construction Manager (GC/CM). This is the beginning of our building processes for a new replacement hospital. I am Looking forward to being on Board for the completion. logo
