Town where you live Union Gap for almost 40 years
Experience (300 characters max) I have been a member of the Union Gap Planning Commission and the Civil Service Commission since 2013. I have worked with organizing social events with groups up to 75 - 100 individuals and have volunteered with Children's Village to give acknowlegement to outstanding kids.
Union Gap is a town that continues to grow. We need to make sure we maintain resources that can help our area and have other options for activities continue to be built or created. I intend to focus on the children because they are an investment for our future and what we do now for them will contribute to their possibility of what they may be able to do for us later.
We need to help with the awareness that homelessness occurs more than we know. The more we know, the more we can be supportive to give a helping hand. No one generally wants a handout, but there are things this community does that provides help to individuals to maintain respect. Having assistance available that keeps confidentiality can promote self-reliance.
Every community should value their senior citizens and Union Gap is no different. With the new City Center in the development, I would like to see more options come their way such as the opportunity to play with a computer for those that may be technically challenged (like me). One example could be skype, which could help them keep connected or have availability for those who do not have computers. I hope we can continue the Meals on Wheels program and seek out other services that may be beneficial to them. I would also like to find opportunities for them to volunteer in our community so they can feel as valuable as they are.
Objectively and with a high degree of respect. There are many community members that have contributed and want to continue being a part of our community. During this trying time for them, I hope we can create, organize and support them with the best legal manner available. In unity, we can share and conduct an understanding and assist in a non-expensive practice (i.e. such as referrals) and help our community grow in diversity.
As we continue to grow, we always strive to keep our small town reputation and values. And yet we need to be prepared for economic development and what it brings to our community. Protect our community with challenging events by teaching awareness in our schools and sharing with the public. There have been training and practices, but having the community be aware of this would be beneficial.
They are all urgent. This town wouldn't be what it is today if we had left any of the individuals or issues out. All of the above worldwide events and concerns have existed in one way or the other in our small community, they have just been addressed in a discreet manner and dealt with in a supportive way. It may not have always been a perfect outcome, but we learn from our mistakes and move forward to do a better job. I don't intend to sound pompous, but I truly care and take pride in this community and enjoy being a long time resident.
Teamwork will always be the best method. If we do not all work together, we can not move forward. I intend to be openminded and even if I do not agree, it will not mean that they are wrong. I want to share ideas and I will speak to those who listen and I will speak with a passion so that I am heard.
