Town where you live Moses Lake, WA
Experience (300 characters max) Four decades of work as a public school teacher and administrator.
The issues surrounding Moses Lake include the impact of population growth, police/fire protection, repair and maintenance of city streets and a balanced budget. In my campaign I identify citizen safety as the top priority. This foundational approach to limited budget resources will help to grow our economic base and provide for additional city activities and services.
The problem of homelessness is best addressed by a coalition of city officials representatives, ie. Police, and non-governmental organizations such as Serve Moses Lake ( project created and supported by local churches). The partnership of both city officials and charity based organizations can have a tremendous impact on the homeless situation.
My commitment to senior citizens includes supporting the Moses Lake Senior Center through inclusion of their activities in the city budget, and providing music for a monthly dance free for citizens at the Senior Center. I have participated in activities at the Senior Center for several years and appreciate the welcoming environment there for all.
The issues related to immigration need to be addressed through compliance with national, state and local laws. Our local economy benefits from immigrants seeking work and economic opportunity in many industries including agriculture. Respect for the civil rights and opportunities for all have created a workforce that enables the local economy to flourish.
Trust in our elected officials is current issue in our city. Adherence to open and transparent governance is an expectation for all City council members and the City Staff that support our activities and goals. This includes making tough budget decisions to keep our expenditures within the resources.
Keeping our decisions open and transparent is most important because this is how trust is developed among both citizens and the city employees.
Good communications will be my first method. In communicating well one must listen and learn about the issues and options under consideration. The City Manager (a hired administrator) will be the key source of accurate and timely information to the City Council. Supportive information from City Department administrators will help to provide the details needed for sound decision making. logo
