Clallam, Jefferson FIRE DISTRICT 1 Commissioner Position No. 5

6-year term; No salary. A Fire District is responsible for fire response and containment and for emergency medical services. The commission sets the general policies of the district, which are implemented by the hired professional fire chief and fire district personnel. One of commission's main duties is the adoption of the district's budget and proposal of any fire levies to be placed on the ballot to the people. The commission sets policies and approves all spending via the budget, whether for operations or capital items or public facility maintenance and improvements. The council also sets salaries for district employees.

It is easy to wish that someone else would fix "that" problem. It is much more difficult to step in and offer your own hand. I am taking this opportunity to step in, lend a hand, and contribute to my community in a meaningful way.
Replacement plan for vehicles and apparatus. Funding a new fire truck for the district, which could cost about $500,000. Preparations of district facilities for the Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquake.

Maintaining the right tools and vehicles to be effective as a fire district is a critical task. Making sure that dollars are not wasted on inferior products and services, and continuing to be diligent with repairs and maintenance are solid first steps. Proper training in equipment used by staff will also aid in preventing unnecessary damage to vehicles and apparatus. A long term plan (and budget) for equipment replacement is required to reduce the likelihood of short term fiscal crisis.
I have been working in the private sector of the forest products industry since 1998. I have learned much about careful budgeting and financial analysis. I also have extensive training and work history with the LEAN method of process improvement. It is from this background that I will be able to critically evaluate the questions and issues facing our fire district. I will bring a fresh perspective that is not tainted by legacy ways of thinking.

Simply, having served 38 years as a firefighter on District#1 Beaver department it has become an important part of my life. To honor the effort of previous commissioners,chiefs, firefighters and community members I have chosen to run to do my part to maintain and improve our department rating which is the highest rating possible for a volunteer department. Also as a property owner of several parcels in Clallam County fiscal responsibly is of the utmost importance to me. I've lived and worked in this community my entire 60 years and I care deeply for it

As mentioned earlier, 38 years as a firefighter in District#1, Serving as appointed commissioner for a vacated position until election. Serving as a board member with 15 others for the Cedar Shake and Shingle Bureau gives me the experience to work with multiple views.
