The NC District Court hears civil cases involving less than $25,000 and criminal misdemeanors. District Court also oversees juvenile court and the magistrates, which handle things like small claims and evictions. Judges are elected for 4 year terms. Legislation in 2023 numerically realigned/renumbered the District Court and other court districts to align with the Prosecutorial districts.

Before my appointment to the District Court bench, I was engaged in the private practice of law in the 36th Judicial District. The 36th District is comprised of three counties: Burke, Caldwell, and Catawba Counties. I practiced law in both the district and superior courts in all three counties, as well as in the Federal District Courts for the Western District of North Carolina. I also represented claimants in administrative hearings before the Social Security Administration. I believe these experiences in representing citizens in the various courts has helped me to better understand the concerns and struggles often faced by folks when navigating our court system.
The only platform I have is to apply the laws of the State of North Carolina, not inconsistent with the North Carolina and United States Constitutions, impartially and consistent with prior decisions of appellate courts..
I have completed advanced training in handling juvenile cases involving delinquency and abuse and neglect matters. For approximately the past six years I have served as one of two juvenile court judges for Burke and Caldwell Counties. While in private practice I routinely handled criminal law cases as well as representation of clients in family court matters such as child custody and marital property issues.
