Current Occupation District Court Judge
Age (optional) 46
I have enjoyed the honor and privilege of serving as a District Court Judge for nearly seventeen years. During that time, I have presided over thousands of matters in all types of cases in the original jurisdiction of the District Court in all three counties that comprise our judicial district. Although always looking at ways to improve, I am content with the work that I have done and look forward to continuing to diligently conduct the peoples' business in the future.
A partisan label gives a voter some picture of the priorities a candidate's political philosophy and ideology emphasize. I, as a member of the judicial branch, apply the laws that are passed by our Republican General Assembly and, unless enacted by legislative veto override, signed into law by our Democratic Governor. The guarantees and protections set forth in our federal and state constitutions ought to supersede partisan labels.
The best way to improve at a craft is with practice. For the last nearly seventeen years, I have gone to work each day and held family, criminal, or juvenile court in Morganton, Lenoir, or Newton. Beyond that my own experiences as a life-long resident of Catawba County, a husband, a father, and as a person of faith allow me to appreciate and empathize with those in front of me. They also motivate me to, as best I can, provide a courtroom in which we all can take pride and to do so with a little bit of grace and a little bit of humility.
