I have financial experience in governmental affairs, both municipal and education. I have been a selectman and a school committee member (two terms).
The most important responsibilities as a board member are: 1- to pass a balanced budget, 2- have a transparent long-term budget and capital plan in place, and 3- have a publicized plan and follow up on progress in underperforming schools.
Critical needs include 1- progress improvement in underperforming schools, 2- staff retention, and 3- a long-term capital spending plan that sensibly repairs and/or retires older schools. These needs would be prioritized in the order as identified.

In order to recruit and retain qualified teachers, a pragmatic approach to usage of available revenue stream for each succeeding budget year is critical. How are the monies available from exiting staff (retired or not returning) to be used? What and how are other freed up revenue sources to be used? This would be a method to address a long standing concern that exists throughout the state as well.
A pre-K program is important for any county school district. Budget needs are to be balanced with all grades as well. The critical determinant for more help is if certain pre-K individual schools are underperforming.
